Car doesnt shift into second

The original transmission went on me about a year ago. Got a rebuilt transmission from jasper since then. Had no problems until recently.

When the problem first started, it only happened when the car was warmed up. I would drive for a bit and then after awhile you felt like a clang and then the car wouldnt shift into second. Now the problem happens right away, without even the car having to warm up.

Car doesnt shift into second. I have to shift manually. Called up jasper and they sent two solenoids. They ended up sending the wrong ones. Got another two from some local transmission shop, that didnt fix the problem. Ordered some from the dealer now and waiting on that. If that doesnt fix the issue, what else can it be?

Have you scanned it for codes? There are transmission codes that do not turn on the SES light.

Hopefully Frank, the trans builder will see this and respond.

UPDATE:

The solenoid from the dealer seemed to do the trick. Thanx

Re: Car doesnt shift into second

Sorry, I didn't catch this until now. I'm assuming you mean you replaced the shift solenoids? This doesn't really make sense because BOTH shift solenoids have to be ON for 1st gear. the "A" solenoid turns OFF for 2nd but the "B" stays on. Both solenoids are OFF for 3rd. "A" solenoid comes back ON for 4th, but "B" stays OFF. No solenoid failure will cause a loss of 2nd only. Was it just skipping 2nd gear? Did you still have 3rd and 4th? What did the fluid look like when you changed the solenoids? Any debris in the pan?

Re: Car doesnt shift into second

...And a shift solenoid doesn't know if you're shifting manually. This sounds like a larger issue.

Thanx for dropping knowledge on us. I am having a no shift to second problem also. I haven't tried anything yet and am just researching and came across this post. Great to know what the solenoids are suppose to be doing.

How does one know which solenoid is which? Are they labeled? I'm guessing they are the same and can be swapped around. TIA

Re: Car doesnt shift into second

The "A" solenoid is closest to the input accumulator on the valve body.
