Re: better axle materiel

Could you expand on what you consider to be "better"? Do you want strength, do you want durability, lower cost, etc? Each material has its pros and cons.

Re: better axle materiel

Well, I seen the chromoly was more expensive. I found a couple problems with my axles and decided to buy new ones. With chromoly I sappose it would be stronger and more corrosion resistant than the hardened steel? I just don't want to have to replace axles again since my car only has 55K on it... I understand other factors are involved for the reason my axle was bad but I figure maybe the chromoly would help in the future.

Don't feel too bad about replacing your axles, that whole system of using the axle as the inner race is retarded. Were they worn right there where the rollers were on them?

Re: better axle materiel

I wouldn't bother worrying about shaft strength of aftermarket 7.5" shafts. By the time they become the weak link the carrier and gears are going to be a bigger problem.

Re: better axle materiel

thats funny you say that, because the component that was warn in my rear was an axle... I understand bearings caused the wear even before they failed but I figure a stronger material would not wear as quick. Im not worried about them twisting just the race surfaces and splines as they where also worn.
