Re: Bad auto tranny??

Did some reading. Looks like my tranny is on its way out which would suck considering i havent even hit 75000 miles but also saw that i might need to adjust my rev limiter and shift points. i have the hypertech programmer, so where should i set the rev limiter and shifting points??? also i believe the car has a shift kit installed.

Does it act like it's in neutral? If so probably 3/4 failure

Sorry I should clarify, if you are WOT in second and you hit a certain rpm does it act like it just goes into neutral?

Is this only in second gear?

You should put this in the drivetrain section. Let frank help you out.

Re: Bad auto tranny??

Red lining should jerk you around as injectors are cut off then go back on as RPM drops, jerky ride w/backfiring. With 4.10's and 18 inch tires, guessing at 55 profile , you are close to 6250 rpm at 60 MPH. Stock cutoff is 5805. I shift mine at 5400, it's set up for street. As far as HP tuners, I can't help, but I know VCM Suite can do it. have you tried over here... HP Tuners Bulletin Board

Re: Bad auto tranny??

Scan the PCM for transmission codes. They don't turn on the SES light, so you won't know they are there unless you scan.

I moved this to the "Drivetrain" forum for you.

Re: Bad auto tranny??

Thanks Injuneer, I wasnt sure how to move my thread to a different area. Im gonna have to take the car in and just see what all is wrong if anything. Have them do the scan as you said.

Re: Bad auto tranny??

Let's start with, what condition is the fluid in? Is it dark or does it smell burnt? Your complaint is usually a result of a couple things. A tired transmission will act like this because the clutches have more clearance, and they take longer to apply. If you watch this in a data log it will show long shift timing. That extra time to apply the clutch or band, allows the engine to gain enough RPMs to hit the limiter.

Re: Bad auto tranny??

My car did this when I switched to 3.42 gears. Even though I flashed the PCM to correct the speedometer I would still hit the rev limiter before it would shift. It only happened at full throttle. If your PCM hasn't had the shift speeds programed for the 4.10 gears, you are hitting the rev limiter before reaching the programed shift speed. I don't know how the hypertech works but Tunercats has an option to reset the transmission tables when you reprogram the speedometer.

Re: Bad auto tranny??

I checked the transmission fluid and it looked fine to me. no burnt smell. i took it out on the interstate and ran with my moms 2010 SS. she was doing 70 and i was running 65. i know it has 4.10 in it for sure. the only time the transmission does that red lining thing is if i try to floor it. im gonna try to mess with my rev limiter and shift points again. i dont really wanna have to buy a new programmer chip, but i really really would hate to have to rebuild a transmission, i just got this car and i dont have money for that.
