I am new to this site and registered because I've seen a lot of helpful info with some of my problems with this car. My problem now is that the transmission in my 94 Camaro doesn't engine break only in OD. When I manually shift the transmission in 1st, 2nd, and Drive and let off the throttle going down the road the transmission shifts into neutral. When it's in OD it works fine. I have recently changed the transmission fluid in it and I cannot attest to the fact that this problem started when I done that. The computer was also changed in this car a while back and the speed o-meter is 10 mph. I'm just wandering if there is something in the trans going bad or could it be the computer or maybe even changing the fluid. BTW the car has 235k miles on it and nothing has ever been rebuilt...fluids have been changed properly for the life of it. Any help would be appreciated!!

I can't answer your question exactly because more than one thing could be going on, but I can tell you that DFCO (decelleration fuel cut off) is controlled by the computer and is adjustable for different driving conditions based on mph, rpm, load, and coolant temp. So all of those parameters are considered for whether or not the computer decides to take away fuel and retard the timing to slow the car down or just let it coast. Whether or not you have anything wrong with your transmission - I couldn't say - there are a couple transmission experts on here who might know. If your speedometer isn't reading correctly, it is possible your computer isn't calibrated to the gears in your rear end - and that wouldn't help matters, either. And if that is true, who knows what else isn't correct in there.

I thought that was normal. My Z28 has always done that. In overdrive, your converter is in lockup mode. But then again, I am not a transmission man, so who knows?

Not a lot of traffic on this forum. But there are a couple knowledgeable people who show up once in a while. Generally worth waiting for.

Thanks for the response, I can tell you this, my mechanic put a new computer in it and optispark distributor at the same time and ever since then the speedometer has been off (bout 10-12 mph faster than what you actually are driving) Im guessing it needs to be calibrated....?

The lugs are broke off the over run hub part of the input sprag. I've seen this happen quite a bit.

Had the transmission rebuild. Works great now. It was only $1759.
