91 4L80 tranny and 5.3L motor from a 2000 truck

I have a 91 3/4 ton truck that I'm going to put a 5.3L from a 2000 chevy truck in. I was going to use a harness and ecm from a 98 LS1 to control the motor with a LS1 intake. But while pulling the 5.7 TBI motor out I realized I didn't have a 700R4. This is a four wheel drive and I'm not looking to change out the tranny or transfer case. So can I get a newer ecm to control this tranny? Is it possible to leave the old ecm in to control the tranny? I would rather remove the factory ecm and run one for the motor and tranny.

What are the differences from a 91 4L80 tranny and a newrer one lets say a 96-98 tranny?

Any help or thoughts are appreicated.

Thanks
