SLP clutch OK without SLP flywheel?

I'm looking to buy a new clutch for my 96 Z28. There's no mods to speak of, stock engine, I won't be doing any serious racing. Looking at an SLP clutch, they say the disc works well (or better) with their SLP flywheel. I really don't want to spend the extra $400 for the flywheel, and prefer to use the stock one. Has anyone had any bad experiences with SLP clutches? What's the recommendation on the flywheel? Should I look into a different manufacturer that works better with a stock flywheel?

Re: SLP clutch OK without SLP flywheel?

I'm not an expert on it, but I put their clutch disc and pressure plate on with my stock flywheel (resurfaced) and everything worked real smoothly. The only problem I'm having now is I think I have some hairline cracks in my flywheel or something similar that has caused it to become unbalanced cause there's a harsh vibration, but I don't think it's related to the clutch. It's most likely from when I got it stuck on the beach doing doughnuts and had some harsh wheel hop that went through the whole driveline.

Up til now it was much better than stock and had much less slip than before. It had less "growling" when skip shifting too.

You check your U-joints and driveshaft for balance? This will cause vibration

Re: SLP clutch OK without SLP flywheel?

I used the stock flywheel (it was only resurfaced) and installed a SLP clutch 20K miles ago. Car now has 133K. Im pretty sure its the stock clutch disc, and an upgraded P.P and T.O.B. dont forget to change the piolet bearing also!

Yeah, it's in front of the transmission cause putting it in neutral or pushing the clutch in does nothing for it. Also I just had my U-joints replaced recently anyways.

Oh, and it's while sitting too. Not a moving vibration. It happens at idle, below idle (worse) or around 2k rpms.

Its a good clutch for your application. It will work fine with the stock flywheel.

Same here. I'm running an slp LT4 pp and LT1 disc on my stock resurfaced flywheel. No problems here.
