7.5" traction control posi into a regular housing?

Re: 7.5" traction control posi into a regular housing?
Actually, that's not a traction control rear. The reluctor gear is for the ABS. If it had traction control, there would be a reluctor gear on the end of each axle and a sensor on the brake backing plates, and none on the diff.
The reluctor gear is removable on the stock diff. I'd remove it without damaging it. There should be a resale market for the gear.
That carrier looks like it might be a 2-series carrier, and someone put an extra thick ring gear in it so they could run a ratio numerically higher than 3.08.

Thanks for waking me up! No reason for me not to know that!
My first experience with a 7.5, have never seen a reluctor like that before..on the typical ABS sensors ends yes.
I thought that ring gear looked a bit beefy..
Figure if I can't sell the complete axle..may as well install the carrier into a 54.5" S10 2WD axle....better fender width for the old 30's cars.
I have a couple of the rare S10 8.5" 2Wd 54.5" units, have one in my 33 Chevy coupe.
Thanks

Looks like I'm going to install the Auburn posi unit in a S10 2Wd 7.5 axle.
When the reluctor gear is removed...do I then need a spacer of the identical thickness to replace it? If so, where do I locate one?
Thanks

Re: 7.5" traction control posi into a regular housing?
The reluctor gear is a big hollow ring (like a barrel hoop), that is a press fit onto the circumference of the carrier flange that the ring gear bolts to. It does not touch the ring gear, and is not located between the ring gear and the carrier flange. You just remove the reluctor gear from the carrier.

That helps me come to my conclusion to just part out this Camaro axle and set up a narrow S10 axle with the posi and gears.
Thanks again for your help..it comes apart tomorrow.

As stated above,it's a 2 series carrier with either a 2.73 or 3.08 gear, putting the ratio in an S10 will cause much disappointment with its' acceleration ability. Trucks, typically came with 3.73 & 4.10.
If you're able to remove the ABS reluctor ring without damaging it,it sellable as it's no longer available and there are many 'wanted' threads for that ring.

I have a couple of the rare S10 8.5" 10 bolt 2Wd 54.5" axles, the next best thing is the standard 2WD S10 7.5" 2WD 54.5" axle and that's my intent to load this carrier in a 7.5 for a future streetrod.
So I'll have Z28 parts left over, reluctor, axles, calipers, rotors, cables.

10-4..looking into that now..there were some S10 axle changes around model year 2000 not sure what they were..worse case scenario...have trading material.

just tap it off in a circular pattern away from the ring gear. you'll begin to see it move after a few taps. the teeth are easy to damage/break,so is the ring itself. I've removed/installed many.
