1996 z-28 rear end clunk

96 z-28 auto trans low speed rear end clunk,clunk ,start off with a little gas you dont hear it . 97,000 miles what could it be ? thanks

Check attachment points of the torque arm, sway bar, panhard bar, shock mounts, everything you can think of back there.

You sure it's at the rear of the car, and not a broken trans mount allowing the trans to lift and hit the floor under torque arm loading?

Fred, if I'm not mistaken (or maybe I'm misreading Joe's post), wouldn't a broken trans mount make a louder, more noticeable sound if you hit the gas hard?

Yes, but the way I read it I interpreted "start off with a little gas you don't hear it" as meaning you only do hear it when you go hard on the throttle. Maybe I read it wrong..... I don't know.
