What a day
Got up Saturday to get ready for the Street Tire Shootout at MidMichiganMotorplex and damn looking at the weather forecast it was going to be a no go. So I thought that maybe Chris and I could go and do something else. Went up to check with her and she was so sick that she couldn't even get out of bed. Well ****. Went back down to sit and veg in front of the boob tube.
About 1pm my buddy Rod called to see what was happening and during the conversation he mentioned that he'd just looked at the forecast for Stanton, MI and it now showed almost no chance of rain. Woo Hoo Maybe I can get to the race.
Chris still feels like crap so I get stuff around and head out to the truck to go solo to the track. Turn the key and the glow plug light won't go out. Start it up and the check engine light is on. Well **** again. Screw it I'm going to the track anyway.
I get to the track about an hour late, truck runs fine, must just be the glow plug problem causing the light. 3:10pm I've got my paper work done and my arm band. 3:20pm the car is out. 3:21pm the car won't start, won't do anything, the battery is totally dead. My Genisis battery is done. What the hell do I do now.
I pull the car back into the trailer and stare at it for a minute. The thought of spending $30 in fuel to get there and $35 for entry fee just to go back home grinds on me. Option 1 race the truck. Option 2 take the auxillary battery out of the truck and get it in the car. But there's no battery box in the car anymore the mount for the Genisis and my Over flow bottle are where the battery box was. Can I get it in there and find somewhere to put the radiator overflow bottle? Well I'm going to try it.
I get the battery in and bungie it tight (I know........against the rules). Then I stuff the coolant bottle between the battery and the inner fender.
4:30pm the car is out again. Fire it up and make a couple of passes. Pop the hood and all is still in place. OK it looks like we'll be going racing after all.
Now I figure with the way that the day is going I'll probably loose in the first round. But finally my luck for this day has turned around. Won round after round 'till the semi finals when I lost at the tree. He ran a 12.235 on a 12.23 dial with a .039 light. I ran a 11.284 on a 11.28 dial with a .054 light.
Loaded the car up and got my $100 check and headed for home.

Street Tire Shootout time again and this race went way smoother. My wife Chris was there to crew for me and my buddy Scott came out to race too. Some of my lights were ugly some were awesome but they were all good enough to get me to the final round this time.
But alas the red bug bit me and I went home with the runner up money. Not bad for an old guy that never practices and races a 6 race series. And happy to have the $300 for second place.

As to sandbagging, I'm not into that. It's easier for me to just dial it tight and run it out.
