Sub boxes = too much weight??

how many of you race with sub boxes in your car? would if benefit that much to take them out? I'm asking because my 3rd gen is going to be my "drag car" but will some street time. I need music. I was just debating on putting some sub boxes or leaving the thing stock. what does everyone think??

p.s. I'm planning on getting into the 11's (would love 10's) at least. but don't want the car to be cutted.

My Kooks long-tube headers w/ dual open collectors and LT-4 stroker turning over 6.5K is all the music I need in my Z28! It sounds better than any rock-group I've heard!

Build a sub box that is easily removable for track days. The less the weight the better your chances are to get into the 10's.

I'm pretty sure I cut my 12.87 @ 110 with the sub & amp in my car still . It's the MTX Thunderform (plastic/composite? ) custom box that fits in the rear driver's side "cubby", so it really isn't all that heavy, but still, I didn't remove it. I didn't pull the spare tire or jack either. Ran in full "street" mode, with the exception of my BFG DR's, but hey, they're still "street" radials too .

Mount the amp to the box and wire it all up with plug in connectors. Then when you head to the track or even when you get to the track you can unplug a half a dozen wires and set it out.
Weight is your enemy when trying to go fast.

How heavy are they? General rule of thumb is 1/10 of benefit for every hundred pounds removed. A street/strip car needs to be fun on the street as well as the track. I'd leave them in as the weight is probably in the rear...

If you are performance minded...as it sure sounds like it with you wanting 10s then this is a no brainer. Weight = bad.

At the very least make a box that can be removed at or before track time.

I have two amps and a cap on the deck, and two 12s in a box in the hatch. All together about 80 lbs or so.

When I've gone to the track all I have to do is take two wires out of the box and I've suddenly lost 65 lbs over the back. If you're fretting over 10-15 lbs than you shouldn't be dealing with a major stereo install anyway.
