Post Ok so who is going to win??

My buddy wants to race his 98 Formula LS-1 stock, automatic w/ 3.23 against my 97 z-28 LT-1 w/ k&n, 3" cat back flowmaster sys., tb bypass, manual 6 speed w/ 3.42.. Both have the same tires and size 245/50ZR16. Who do you put your money on? My guess is its going to come down to the driver. I think both cars are pretty even.

If your only mods are a catback and K&N and tb bypass then I will give the race to the 98 Formula, even if you are an excellent driver with that 6 speed the LS1 just has a larger power advantage over you and in a quarter mile race will probably beat you by about .4 seconds which actually means you will probably be watching his tail lights from a few lengths back. It does depend somewhat on driving, if you are very good and your friend sucks then there is a chance but the fact is he has about 20 horses on you and will probably win, keep us posted after the race, I would like to see the outcome.

I dont think there is that much of a hp diferance. My z is rated at 285 stock, I would guess my mods would give me about 15-20 extra HP. Aren't the Formulas about 310 stock? That would put me only at about 5 hp less. Please correct me if Im wrong I'm still new to the scene. I do think he would win but I think it would be really close.

having owned both LS1's and LT1's I'm going to have to put my money on the LS1. The rating of the HP on the LS1's is an understatement. My 98SS when it was BONE STOCK and it only had 150 miles on it dynoed @ 300rwhp. In the last few years I believe the LS1's even have more power. Your LT1 would pull down about 260rwhp. So car to car he will probably beat you. It will just depend on your launch.

Also, just a side note for you,

My 98SS(M6 car) ran 12.97@109.75 w/ an air filter and underdrive pully.

My 99 Z28 (A4) ran a 13.6@104 w/ no mods at all.

My 98 C5 (A4) ran 13.1's@107 with Filter, 80mm throtle body, and HPP3.

My 97 Formula(M6) ran 13.7@102 w/ a borla and K&N Filter.

My 97 Z28(A4) ran 13.7's@101 w/ borla/K&N/HPP/shorty headers/3.42's.

All times were taken at the same track. Every one of my LS1 cars have been way faster than my mildly modified LT1s.

However, on the street it's a different ball game, if you are going from a roll he will crush you. But from a stop, if you can launch and he spins his tires you'll beat him. I've lost a lot of races due to lack of traction.

None the less.. Good luck!

Well, I looked at your orginal post again. I see he has an A4, I think the burden of traction is going to be on you with that stick.

Also depending on what speed you start out at on a roll, you may have a better chance. My 99Z if I remember correctly was violant fast at 60mph. My C5's speed was 40mph. With your stick, you may be best talking your friend into racing from a roll.

Actually, I hook up great! It churps a little but not much more, he has the problem with traction. I figure he will win but he isn't going to spank me like he does gt's. I'll let you know what happens, it probably wont be untill labor day holiday till I see him agian. He lives in Richmond, Im in Allentown, PA. I just got the car on 7/8/02, we stopped on 7/7 with him to look at it at the dealership (which was closed because it was Sunday) and thats all he has even seen it. Took it for a test dive the next day and I was hooked.

LS1 dong sucker alert here.

Remember, all LS1 run high 12's only with a Ford driver.

Next time I see an LS1 f-bod on the highway, I am just going to pull off the side of the road and hope he or she does not try to start anything because what can a lowly LT1 do?

haha... don't get me wrong, I LOVE LT1's and have a lot of faith in um otherwise I wouldn't have what I have in my Sig. I'm just stating that LS1s are fast cars stock.
