If this strictly a "track" engine?

Will the vehicle experience significant weight reduction?

What part of the 11's are you after.... high, mid or low 11's?

I'm going to suggest I move this to "LT1 Based Engine Tech". There's not a lot of traffic in the Drag Racing forum.

This has been sitting in the "Drag Racing...." forum for 3 days. He came back and signed on, but did not respond to my suggestion that the topic be moved to "LT1 Based Engine Tech", so let's "TTT".

Re: help me build a budget lt1 race engine

You don't need a race engine.
A bone stock LT1 with a 150 shot will easily run low 11's in an F-body.
If it doesn't, you're doing something wrong with the rest of the car.
I ran mid and low 11's for years with the stock LT1 in a B-body at near 4000 lbs.

Re: help me build a budget lt1 race engine

Check with some of the vendors such as Ellwien Engines, Victory Racing Engines, etc you'll want an "all forged" 383 rotating assembly and billet 4 bolt main caps splayed or straight. Then get AFR 210s or AI 200s heads (get your intake ported as well) and a matching cam and 1.6 nsa roller rockers, AFR hydra rev kit then get a 58mm throttle body, long tube headers. I will also suggest getting a Shon Herron billet oilpump drive and an aftermarket 6qt or 7qt oilpan with the matching pump and pickup. Then get some 42# injectors and a mail order tune to get you started I use PCM4Less. That should get you 420-450 rwhp depending on what heads and cam you get then add a 175 shot of spray and you'll have enough power to get in the 10's.
