Follow up post....went to drag strip for first time...
Went to the strip for the first time this year....
First off the race weight 3535 without driver...a little heavy?
Temp 60*
Nittos 26 PSI
First run:
R/T .554
60 2.37
330 6.638
1/8 9.695
MPH 91.99
1000 12.279
1/4 14.44
MPH 104.93
I went sideways on this run after smoking the tires on the launch and almost ran into the barrier, also let off before the beam.
Second run
R/T .552
60 2.155
330 5.692
1/8 8.555
MPH 85.4
1000 11.054
1/4 13.16
MPH 107.36
Launched better but weakly this time
Third run
R/T .859
60 1.923
330 5.404
1/8 8.245
MPH 86.02
1000 10.726
1/4 12.81
MPH 107.97
Got more of a feel for launching this run and finally broke 12's
Last run
R/T .782
60 1.854
330 5.320
1/8 8.161
MPH 86.05
1000 10.645
1/4 12.74
MPH 107.86
My best run and best 60 foot before they kicked us out !!! I launched really good and felt the Nitto's struggling to grab.
I got a couple questions?
Why is my trap speed so low when I dyno ~350 rwhp? Shouldnt it be 110-111mph?
I burnt up the Nittos for 3-4 seconds but got absolutely no smoke. Is this normal?
All this with an SES and a probable bad O2 or TPS. Could I possibly go 12.4-12.5 with a little more weight reduction and 1.7X 60'?
Time to change sig.

Well, as long as you want honest opinions? I'd say with those heads, that size converter, that cam and long tubes, with bad air you should trap 110. I'm not sure of the track elevation?? I'd take a close look at the shift points. I'd think you would want to shift that 3.42 geared car at 6300 rpm's. I shift mine at 6200, but I have a H/C and 3.73 gears, on stock heads. (Heads getting done as we speak) 12.7 isn't bad though, I'm more concerned with the MPH. I hope I didn't offend you, just telling you what I'm thinking.

You should be getting 110 MPH out of that combo. Have you scanned your run? Maybe your getting some knock retard now that your under a load. Maybe you got a bad batch of gas. Anything else change since your dyno?

No offense Fred I completely get ya. I just gotta learn how to launch, I need more practice. I was really disapointed I only trapped 108 though. I dont know why as of yet. Its going back on the dyno to get more tuning in a couple weeks. My car has been running a little "off" for the past couple months, idles weird, SES, etc. Well see when I bring it back in. Just as a comparison a A4 2002 SS with a couple bolt ons and nittos was running 13.6's at 104.
Canton- nothing changed as of yet. Im maybe getting some knock in the upper RPM's because of how loud the cutout is. The car was tuned with the cutout closed..??
I forgot to add in the first post in the upper RPM's the car seems like its pulling half ***, hard to explain but it feels like it gets heavier. Ill scan the runs next time.
Going to find out track elevation too...

Your 1/8th mile time/mph match up right where they should be with your 1/4mi times/mph's so if you are down on power it's throughout the rpm's. Could be just the weathter/atltitude alone make the difference of where others say it should be.

Would a lock up switch for the convertor help with his MPH.

What do you mean? I mean I have a non-lockup 2800 converter and it traps pretty good,

Race weight is not "without driver". The car doesn't go down the track by itself. The total weight of what the engine has to move should be known.
3535 pounds for the car plus your total weight with helmet etc may come to 3700 pounds.
A 3700 pound weight moving 107.97 mph in the 1/4 mile is using 363.47 HP. Looks a bit more than your dyno HP to me but he car's total weight could even be heavier. That's not converting for altitude, just how much HP is required to move that much weight. At higher altitudes the car will be slower because then engine doesn't produce the same amount of HP. At lower altitudes the car will be faster because the engine produces more HP.
