Post Finally broke into the tens...... now it's time for a rebuild...

I went to Island dragway Friday night to do some shakedown runs with the beast (been in the shop for 20 weeks). hooked a couple of slow runs N/A to see how it would launch.

1st launch:60'=1.46
2nd launch:60'=1.48

not bad for an N/A launch...so I decide it was leaving nice and straight...why not give her some of the happy gas on the last run of the night.

I spray a window of 3000-5800 and spray outta the hole. The run broke down as follows:

r/t:.647 (not too good on a pro .5)
60':1.363 (kinda sweet..carried the tires through first and part of second)
330':4.432
1/8:6.930
1/8 mph:98.66
1000':9.030
1/4:10.813
1/4 mph:121.25

as you can probably tell from the numbers... I got a little scared and short shifted (@5000) and let off about the 1000 foot mark. The car got a little squirrley on the big end.

But all in all...I was pretty happy with the results.

So I decide I'll go again on sunday and play with the BIG BOYS at island. This time theres no holding back. I decide to see what It truely has.

I burn, I stage, I launch(not great but a 1.43), I bang 2 shifts and I'm pullin REALLY HARD on a blower car, I go to shift from 3rd to 4th and BOOOOMMMM!!!! just past the 1/8 mile I decintegrated 4th gear...and in doing so I wrapped the engine up around 8000rpm(it didn't like that too much) ,popped a couple of nice holes in the pistons....messed up the heads a little... and there is absolutly no 4th left in the trans. Oh well, guess I'm done for the year... But I'll be back with a 422 blower car next spring.

good luck to the rest of you this season.

Tough break man (no pun intended). That suck you spend so much time on the car in the shop and you only get a handfull of runs out of it. How about some info on the combo you were running? Tell me about the suspension set up for those sweet 60' times.

I'm runnin' a polo green '97 z28 with the following...
*ECS Stage III heads and a nitrous cam (stock bottom end..hence the big boom)
*165hp TNT wet shot...customized by ECS
*@650lbs of weight loss (nothing on the crank but an alt....all wiring delete..no ABS...you get the idea...I couldn't drive it on the street without landing in jail)
*elec. water pump
*carbon fiber driveshaft (5.3lbs)
*BMR-LCA's, Panhard, DD Subframes, Extreme Duty Torque arm (all suspension mods customized by ECS)
*28x10.5Wx15 ET Drags on weld draglites out back(tubed..runnin' 12lbs)
*28x4x15 ET Fronts on weld draglites
*stock t56...with the exception of the star stage III carbon fiber clutch...another reason for the boom.
*custom cage
*sparco safety equipment...5pt,seat, etc...
*Strange 12 bolt full spool with pro axles and 33 spline
*Hooker longtubes going straight into borla XR-1's to downspouts..(sounds REALLY mean).

I'm sure theres lots more I'm forgetting... But all in all, every mod thats been done to date has been custom and installed to take SERIOUS hp/tq.

I knew it was only a matter of time before my 2 weak links (trans/bottom end) gave in.

So I look at it this way...... I'll finish it up over the winter with the new bottom end and a built th400 or lenco and be lookin' for the serious numbers next year

<<<<<<<<UPDATE>>> >>>>>

Decided to go with a powerglide...and bottom end has been "glued" together for a few more runs this year before the big breakdown...

I should have the car back in about 2 weeks.. I'll let ya know what I run off the transbrake (should be a "wild" ride)

Question

I'm surprised you don't have a MSD ignition with a rev limited built in to avoid things like over reving to 8 grand. Don't tell me you did all that other stuff to the car and left out the ignition box.

I have a rev limiter set to 6400....but when the trans let go... the inertia of the rotating mass carried it to 8000.
