1/8th mile results

Took my 93 z28 to the local 1/8th mile track. This is my first time racing this car, and my first time racing a 6 speed. I was on M/T drag radials. The car ran a 9.71@71mph with a 2.26ft. I was attempting to learn how to launch and that was the best time of the night..i dumped the clutch at 3k, the tires did spin a few for a few feet. The car is all stock with 170k on it and recently had a full tuneup. This car has factory 2.73s and is supposed to have the lower geared t56 in it. I was think the car would run in the lower 9s from how it feels as ive raced several other cars, but like i said this is my first stick shift car ive attempted to race. Is there a better technique of launching then just dumping at 3k and hoping all goes well? thanks

There are lots of things that determine how high you launch, track temp, tire pressure, ect. Basically you have to find the RPM that lets it hook but not bogg out. Then hit those shifts!
