OBD2 scanner with air bag for 96 Z28
Does anyone have any information or know of a scanner that will read the air bag module and engine codes for a 96 Z28?
All the scanners I've seen only read the air bag modules form 1999 & up.
any help here?
Thanks,

Re: OBD2 scanner with air bag for 96 Z28
My PC app, Scan9495, can read the ABS for the 96. I am not sure about the 96 SIR (airbags) module since I have never used one. The ABS and SIR modules are not on the Class 2 OBD2 bus and that's why you cant get an OBD2 scan program for them. As for the SIR module, you could give it a try and see what is reported for trouble codes. It will either be garbled useless data or the real codes.
You would need an OBD1 cable for a 16-pin 95 and my app. There are several good companies making OBD1 cables including Red Devil River, OBD Diagnostics, etc. Also, here are a couple of procedures for making your own cable for under $20. I recommend the one described in post #8.
Make an OBD1 cable for under $20 - Firebird Nation
The only other way of which I am aware is a Tech 2 (real or clone).
Any OBD2 scanner can read the engine trouble codes, even a few under $20.
