Does it just come up with an error or is it a completely different number combo, or why not I should ask? (Has anyone tried?)
I don't know.

If anyone has the ability to try I'd be very interested in the results.

Re: LS1 PCM on LT1.

From doing a bunch of reading on LS1tech, and other pages; a LT1 (96 or 97) VIN can be programmed into the LS1 PCM. There are some tricks to it; and certain tuners will not work (HPT for one needs a VIN/OS to match; but EFI Live works fine with mis-matched VIN/OS).

Now I just need to figure out if a LS1 PCM with a LT1 VIN will pass the plug-in test.

My gut says yes because the OBDII stds are the same for the "location" and "calls" of the standard tests/information that it runs/requests.

Re: LS1 PCM on LT1.

I applaud the ingenuity and time and dedication to get a system like this to work in these cars. Don't take this as a bash...but for ~$2K just to get an LS1 PCM/ignition system on an LT1, at what point do you say 'hell with it' and just convert the whole dang car over to LS1?

Is it just to say 'it's still an LT1' or for someone who already has a ton of money invested in their LT1 build?

I think it's great, but if I'm at the point I need to drop another $2K just to run a factory ignition system on the bastard-child LT1 engine, I'm either going to sell the car or go entirely LSx in it.

Great work though guys. I'm not putting down what you are doing!

For some crazy reason people still run flat heat fords and points ignition in their cars, don't they know about the LSX cure all for power and performance?

Comparing 24x LT1 conversion to LS1 engine swap (93-97 LT1 Camaro/Firebird)
Because the 98-02 LS1 harness will not work in a 93-97 LT1 car, you need a new engine harness (or rework either the LT1 or LS1 harness). The same is true of a 24x LT1 conversion. So that takes $850.00 out of the $2K comparison.

So now you are left comparing a 24x LT1 conversion to an LS1 swap for about $1,100.00. Can you purchase a good LS1, front subframe, radiator, A/C changes, exhaust changes, transmission change (an LT1 transmission will not directly bolt to an LS1 engine), and any other related parts for under $1,100.00? I don't think I can.

Re: LS1 PCM on LT1.

The LS1 conversion breathes new life to the LT1. The LT1 does make a lot more torque and if you already have one, why not invest in it. The LS1 is not that all superior and the LT does have its advantages... 5 bolts/cyl for the heads. Iron block and cheap. 4 bolt mains (old school style) with priority main oiling and a Y system oil pan.

Heads are cheap/cheaper and with power adders everywhere there is really not that much of an advantage other than aluminum block and/or big cubes, but when adding a power adder, it doesn't make that much of a difference.
