Cool tuning?

I have been resding a lot of posts and I am new to this stuff. I have read about tuning in here is this something a person can do on thier own or do you have to go to a high dollar shop with a dyno to have it done? I am thinking of buying a 97 and just wondered because I dont know of anywhere around here that can do this. There isnt even a dyno around here. Any input will be greatly apprciated!

You can do it on your own, if your willing to put in the time to learn about it. If you buy a 97, your either going to have to convert to OBD I, or spend around $500 to buy OBD II programming gear.

Untill you mod the car (heads/cam etc) then there is not much need to program the thing.

Thanks for the info I am in here learning from the experience of others! There is nothing like experience. I am wanting to build the engine up and put a procharger on it! I see a lot of setups like this and it sounds fun! I gotta get me one of these! This will be my first blower car and I wana do it right so I might be asking more questions. Well thanks for the response!

I'd go OBD I then (but no matter either way), or possibly an aftermarket computer. As long as your keeping the boost low enough not to blow up the stock bottom (or are you rebuilding it?), then you could stick with a stock computer.

Ok here I go again I found a 99 SS for about the same price as the 97 Z but the SS only has 32,000 miles and the Z has 80,000 miles. I was looking at horsepowerstore.com and found a procharger kit with a superchips micro tuner. I was wondering if this will let me tune for future mods. or is it a waste of money. please let me know what you think thanks for the info!

Make sure that kit is for the ls1 and not the lt1. They are two completely different kits.
