will 454 fit in 80 camaro?
I'm looking to put a 454 in my 80 Camaro. I'm not sure how easy it is going to be. I would like to know if it will fit without any major modifications? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen plenty of 454/502 installs in 79-81 Camaros, so I'm sure its an easy swap. I put a Pontiac 455 in my son's 79 Z28, there's enough room in there for just about any GM V8 engine ever made.

The early 2nd gens came with BBC engines so it will fit with no problems. Lots of aftermarket stuff like headers make it an easy swap.
Dropping a BBC into a third gen isn't as easy but can be done.
Dropping a BBC into a fourth gen becomes a hair pulling experience.
Be lucky that you have a chassis that will easily accept a BBC.

I looked into this whole thing years ago so I'm a bit foggy on the details. 1970-1972 had factory big blocks. I believe you need to use the big block frame mounts or the exhaust will hit the steering column. The OEM pieces are scarce but now they're available as reproductions. Basically, you'd want to use parts that would fit the 70-72 models. Things like big block headers wont be listed for a late 70's Camaro, but are listed for the early ones. Other things that might be different are thermostat housings, upper radiator hose, radiator, and fan shroud. Hope this helps.

we used early small block mounts, headers from a 72 monte (hooker super comps) And we didnt run a heater box, but i dont think it would be a problem. The only thing we had to trim was the extra thread on the control arm bolts (that stick in towards the motor) on the drivers side. Hope this helps, Prorac1

I did this swap in my car in my sig. I used solid motor mounts so I had to take the small blocks ones off the k-member,but as long as your not doing that you can re-use the small block mounts. Hood clearance is another thing to watch out for with the tall intakes these days, but a cowl hood will fix that
As far as the headers clearing A/C and the heater box...I couldnt tell ya,somebody stole all mine and left me with a smooth firewall.
