trouble ordering a stock 327 piston.

I have a 1963 standard bore 327, ready to go. I need to replace one piston. The factory GM piston is a dish, with 2 valve reliefs. So far, no one can find it in the computers at the auto parts stores. All they show are flattops with 4 valve reliefs, or domes. There is a stock GM number inside the skirt of the piston. 3796494 is the number. I appreciate any information. The block is a 1963 . It was complete, with the low horse heads but a factory 4 barrel intake that checks out to 62 or 63. I am dying to build this and put in my 78 SS ElCamino. Thank you for the help in advance. Randy

The 3796494 was replaced by 3816974. This has driven me up the wall, lmao.

I've never seen an early 327 with dished pistons. Something weird going on here I think.

Sure there were. Silvolite still makes them, but only in oversizes. They were for trucks. Dish, with 2 valve reliefs. They were made from 1962-68.

Should have remembered the axiom, "never say 'never.'"

Good luck with that little gem!

Here is the link to a catalog page, with pictures. Look at the 5th one down, the first 327 item, and then tell me "there were no such critters".
