Radar Detectors....Good Investment?

Just wondering if I should put some money aside for one.

How many times have they saved you?

Waste of money, to me at least. I relied on it too much.

You said yours quit making audible alerts, too.. Right?

Sucks.

I have one that I wasn't able to use in my Z28. The cigarette lighter didn't work, and it wasn't the fuse.

Yeah, I think someone broke it. It still works, but now I have to keep looking at it every few seconds to see if it's going off. I haven't decided if I want to buy another one or not. Ever since I stopped using it, I haven't gotten any more tickets.

I have a bel 985, and I love it, you do have to learn how to use it properly for it to work though, ie, only speed when there are other target around.

Mine has saved me more than $2k EASY Saved me from jail once too...

You can't rely purely on it though. Watch traffic, and be generally attentive.

you have to use it right

a detector is a TOOL, it is not a ticket preventor like some people make it out to be

also, a lot of people get cheap ones and they get nailed. don't cheap out, get an escort passport 8500 and be happy.

Exactly. I compare my radar detector to a loaded gun. Sure, a gun might make you feel like you can protect yourself, but you can still get killed, or kill yourself if you use it wrong. A detector won't save your *** when you're going 15mph faster than traffic. Even if the cop never clocks you, he still saw it before he could point the gun at you. They're really only good for letting you know it's time to slow down so some other schmuck gets the ticket.
