Post What amp to power one 10" sub?

For my birthday my friend gave me his old 10" sub and amp to put in my camaro. Sub already has a box but the amp is busted. What kind of amp do I need to run just one 10" sub on factory setting? The cheaper the better. I'm not looking for the best just something to get it up and running. Thanks for your help guys. This is my first post in the car audio section.

The sub is a 10" Polk dX series. The amp was a Baja 200 watt 2 channel I believe. The cheaper the better but not complete junk

MTX, Pioneer, Alpine are a few brands which are affordable. You could go with a Profile amp, but I'd spend the extra money to get a better amp.

From what i can remember that pold is a 400 watts rms speaker for the 12's that is. Is it black, with blue lettering, and a pretty fat surround? Personaly i am an orion fan, they have never let me down. For a good buy surf the net for a orion cobalt series amp, or if you have the money maybe an orion xtr, that baha is pretty much a piece, as is boss, and all the other cheaper amps.

What makes an amp a good amp? When powering one 10" sub that is.

A good amp is made of good components, alot of times with boss's and so on they rate the power output at some ungodly voltage rating. They don't have to put it on the box so they don't. Just think, a car sits at 12 volts and runs at about 14 volts. So if an amp says the power at a voltage than most amps put that out. i know personaly that orions are underrated. My xtr pro 1000, says that it puts out 1000 watts, but then again they rate it at 12 volts, i think at 14 volts it's more around 1100-1200. But then there are passive circuit designs, like in a precision power, that always put the same power out no matter what the voltage. Another good amp to look at is the JL 300/1. They have a patented R.I.P. design, which puts out the same power at defferent resistances. In other words you have a 2 ohm load on the amp from the speaker it puts out 300 watts, and if you have more resistance at 4 ohms, it still puts out 300 watts.
