radio removal

i just tried to take out my radio to get to the DRL module. its a monsoon system, if it makes a difference. i got the trim panel off, unscrewed the radio, and tried to pull it out, but it only came out around 2" before the wire harness started holding it back. im sure its the harness because i managed to feel around back there with my hand, and its not anything else. am i missing something? the DRLs are being a huge pain, and id really like to get rid of them asap. thanks

Re: radio removal

Can you get some light back there? How about something to move the Harness around?

Typically the Harness get's hung up on the edges of the cavity, and typically if you move it around it will extend. Could also be the Antenna Wire that's hung up.

Re: radio removal

i got light, and veen managed to fit my hand. i could unplug the harness, but with that much slack, theres absolutely no way i could put it back in later. you might be right about it getting hung up on something though, ill make sure to check for that. thanks

Re: radio removal

Or if it's really that short (very odd), you may have to extend it by:
1) Adding a few inches of wire to each separate wire (Cut and Splice)
2) Purchase the plug and play harnesses for both the Radio & Car Side and add that in between the current harness and radio

Good to hear you got it out though

Re: radio removal

well, i never got it completely out. i did find the antenna wire, and its not the problem. it seems to be the harness on the passenger side. im gonna have a friend give it his best shot tomorrow, and see if that works. if not....well, i might just leave it alone, but probably not for long, lol

Re: radio removal

what you could do is disconnect the wireharness from the radio and then try to figure out whats holding it if there is anything....

and if not, maybe you could find out whats making the harness not reach all the way once you have the bulky radio out of the way.....

Re: radio removal

so the harness should reach far enough to let the radio move? if thats the case, i could just take them out, then figure out the problem. im just worried ill be creating a problem that was never there before, aka not having a radio.

Re: radio removal

i finally got it out! took me way too long to realize that taking out the HVAC control panel will give me perfect access to the harness >_<. turns out theres a locating bracket behind the radio, and the wires run right behind it, so when i pulled the radio straight out, the wires got stuck.
