Post couple of speaker size Q's

I am in the process of upgrading my car stereo and first thing I'm doing is getting rid of all the factory speakers and replacing them. Anyway I was over at best buy and they had a computer and all the replacements were 6 1/2 inches, aren't these 5 1/4 inch? Also what brand should I get? The other thing I was wondering about are the rear speakers, they look like 6 by 9s but when I pulled off the cover was only a 4 and a tweeter! question is with some trimming could I pull these out and put in some 6by9s, also what kind should I replace these with. Sorry for the lame questions I'm a newbie when it comes to stereos.
Thanks brad

other else than the trunk speakers, they are 6 1/2 all around. Actually, oversized 6 1/2. As for the rear speakers, more people would say don't put any in the back and just use a front stage (component) which is a good idea if you are going with a normal audio setup for your car. I have rear speakers on mine for my DVD player so my setup is an exception. For what brand, that's really subjective. You'll have to start to demo different speakers and see what you like (I wouid like to suggest Focals ) And as mentioned before, I would not worry about the rear speakers, but if you do, I would not do the 6 x 9 in the back. If you are bent on getting it, I'd stick with the same speaker size and just get a 4" two way.

A 6x9 is too much speaker for that flimsy *** plastic panel you have to mount it to. There isn't enough mass there to properly support the speaker and to handle all the vibrations caused by the much larger woofer. But if thats what you want to do knock yourself out.

Yea they are definitely oversized 6.5's all around(roughly 6.75 i believe) and i have MB Quart's in my car and they sound amazing. I would definitely suggest going either with a set of MB Quarts or Focals. IMO those are the best two speakers out there.

OH, and make sure you use an amp to power them, they sound 110% better than running off of the minimal power that the deck puts out. They will be much louder and "cleaner" if you run them from a 4 channel amp

Like I said I'm a newbie to stereos. I don't now squat. How do I go about wiring in an amp to power my speakers?

two ways, use the existing wires and find the wire diagrams to get to the proper wires for each speake (www.installdr.com) Or you can run new wires from the amp to each door speaker. I would recommend option number two. Factory wires, IMO, are just too small for ampped application.
