Toyota recalls 681,000 vehicles - WTVA.com
TORRANCE, Ca. (WTVA) _ Toyota has recalled 681,000 Tacomas, Camrys, and Venzas in the United States.
The company says 485,000 Tacoma models included in the recall were built from 2005 - 2009.
They say the steering wheel spiral cable assembly can cause friction overtime and lead to a failure of the airbag to deploy in the event of an accident.
The company says the recall includes 70,500 Camry and 116,000 Venza crossover vehicles built from 2009 to 2011.
Toyota officials say duing the installation of the stop lamp switch, silicon grease may have gotten inside the switch and caused an increase in electrical resistance.
If it occurs, warning lights on the dash could light up, the vehicle may not start, and the shift leval may not move out of "park."
Company officials say the repairs will take about 30 minutes.
Toyota is currently ordering the replacement parts and will notify owners by mail when they are available.
