Theres a new F150 out in china...

powered by a 2.8-liter diesel four-cylinder engine with 108hp and 177lb-ft

Chinese carmaker blatantly copies Ford F-150
Spy Shots: JAC 4R3 pickup truck from China is gunning for the Ford F150 | CarNewsChina.com - China Auto News

Its funny, but at the same time its infuriating that they are able to get away with this kind of stuff... It happens far to often...

Re: Theres a new F150 out in china...

And of course the Chinese government will come back and say "No, it looks NOTHING like a Ford F150." when Ford's lawyers call. That's what happened with BMW a few years ago and it's absurd.

Then there was the Chinese company "China Export" that made their logo 99% identical to the CE logo so they could make it look like all their stuff was CE approved when it went to Europe.

China does not believe in any sort of copyright protection or trademark when it is in their advantage, is willing to happily steal any technology, jobs, or money they can from anyone, doesn't give a crap about the rights or safety of its workforce or citizens or the quality of the environment. They happily censor media, change written history, erase and tweak facts to suit their whims and they viciously limit imports to their country while pushing exports to other countries by having the government step in to subsidize manufacturing and transportation costs of those goods as a means of stealing jobs from those countries.

And yet we have a free trade agreement with them.

One one hand, I loathe their policies. On the other hand, I'm jealous of their success and if the tables were turned and OUR economy was growing like theirs was, I'd probably not be quite so against it.

Those engine specs seem kind of pathetic.

Re: Theres a new F150 out in china...

I wanna see a crash test!!!

Clearly they've missed the mark of what it means to own a "JAG" though--maybe they were confused when Ford and Jaguar were in bed together?

The other thing is that China is proving to the world that going through an entire industrial revolution in 20 years may not be the best idea. Even though we hate agencies that seemingly hinder progress here in America, they were created for a reason, like the EPA. OSHA. The Department of Labor and Industries. To some affect, unions. Crash standards. Warranties tied to legal consequences for the manufacturer, to protect the consumer. The Department of Transportation (can the headlights on that thing even shine 150 feet? Will the plastic material resist weathering and corrosion for a guaranteed period of time?). The real kicker is--will breathing that Chinese New Car smell KILL you?

Re: Theres a new F150 out in china...

If you've seen the latest Top Gear UK episode, you'd see China's first car made in 2002 or 2004. If you saw that car and how horrendous it is, it's understandable why they would outright copy. It's a 3 wheeled car with an engine under a bench seat that tilts back every time you accelerate. It seems like something China engineered in the 50's, but it was made in the early 2000's! The U.S., or most country's first or early vehicles were better made more than 100 years ago. Asian countries really don't come up with inventions of their own anymore, they just copy and knock off stuff. Japan does this too if you think about it, but only in the way that they are not the original creators, they just do their own versions of things very well, and they can do it "from scratch", so to speak, and branch out from other creations into something new. China can do none of these things. Sure, their copies may get better in the years to come, but they will still be crap.

this was the only pic I was able to find

Coincidentally the car is called the xf150zk-4

It just surprises me that no one can challenge them on the infringements this "car comapny" is making.
