HoldenHQ – Holden's Official Blog. Here we'll share news, updates and insights from across the Holden business and host conversations with the people behind our cars
It’s a big day for the team at Holden as we’ve just made one of the most significant announcements in our 156 year history – a $1billion investment in two all-new cars, to be manufactured in the second half of the decade.

Supported by a $275million co-investment package from the Australian and South Australian Governments, the program will help secure the future of the local car industry.

Holden Chairman and MD, Mike Devereux agreed to give HoldenHQ an exclusive video interview before he headed to Canberra to announce the news to media.

While we try (but fail) to pin Mike down to share any details of the all-new cars, he does offer his perspective on the news and lets us in on what kind of return on investment the program could deliver for Australia.
I wonder what this platform is...

Alpha spinoff.

A bit of perspective.

Zeta development also cost a billion dollars (AUS) a decade ago, and that was on a shoestring (most new platforms cost at least 3 times that).

Therefore, stands to reason this platform isn't an all new, ground up, clean sheet of paper effort, unless it's being shared with GM-NA.

Devereux mentioned that this would be a platform for smaller cars so if it is an Alpha spinoff its good to know that GM will have other RWD platforms tailored to those vehicles.
