Hmmm... At first with the photos I've seen, there was no way I'd be interested in the new canyon/colorado. But this bit of news has really changed my mind and now I'm all ears to see what comes from this Diesel power plant.

I feel like this could be a big hit. This could do for the Colorado what the Hemi did for the Ram 1500 ten years ago. The only way Chevy can blow it is if they charge too much for the engine or allow it only on LTZ trucks.

And from Automotive News:

General Motors, which is readying plans to offer a diesel in the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sized pickups, three people familiar with GM's plans told Automotive News. The redesigned pickups are slated to get a version of GM's 2.5-liter or 2.8-liter, four-cylinder Duramax turbodiesels, which power the Colorado in overseas markets. The diesel option will be added to the U.S. lineup about a year after the fall 2014 launch of the redesigned trucks, the sources say.

The gas version of the new Colorado and Canyon should be released during the fall of 2014.
The diesel version is said to be following a year later (fall 2015).

Wow, 2.8 with manual transmission and 28mpg and I will buy one! I require a truck for where we live but also drive 50 miles to work. This would allow me consolidate from 2 vehicles to just one!

I wonder if this is so they can use the 8 speed automatic. If they are offering this engine for the high MPG, then it would make sense to use the more efficient transmission and get the best possible EPA rating right out of the gate.

That Colly has a lot of potential. I read the towing as 3.5 tons which is 7000 pounds. Either way, I hope it does well in the market. For most people, this would be all they need. You could tow a small boat, make home depot runs, get decent mileage all while taking the whole family.
