Chevy Hints at New Namplate in 2013
Chevrolet to replace Impala in NASCAR for 2013, new production model hinted
Rumors are that this is a new sedan based on the Commodore which is slated for a complete refresh around the same time.
According to Chevrolet, the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will kick off without an Impala on the starting grid. That's news itself, considering how intertwined the Impala is with Chevy's NASCAR presence, earning 70 wins since 2007.
Even more intriguing, though, is that Chevy says it "will be racing a vehicle based on a new nameplate to the brand's lineup." That means the 2013 racer won't be a Malibu or Cruze. Whatever it may be, Chevrolet says that both the race version and the production version will be debuted "in the coming year."

Impala isn't going anywhere. It will continue as a large fwd sedan:
2014 Chevrolet Impala takes shape
This new car will hopefully be a rwd sport sedan.

The success of the Charger/300 should be a lesson.

Or it could simply mean that they are renaming the Impala since the current one has become associated heavily with fleet sales.
I don't think they will do that, but it could be as simple as that.
