2012 BMW turbo 4cyl. 3 series rated 36mpg
Very impressive, especially when compared to the weaker 3.0L it replaced. So I guess these are the kinds of numbers we could expect from a turbo 4cyl. 2016 Camaro.
Auto = 36mpg, Manual = 34mpg
Auto = 36mpg, Manual = 34mpg

Wow, very impressive! What's even more impressive is that it clearly is more powerful than the engine it replaced, making around 245 horsepower at the rear wheels and running around 14 flat in the 1/4-mile.
Does that say A8? I didn't realize the 8 speed autos had worked their way all the way down to the 328i. Who makes those 8 speeds? IIRC the previous 328i I6 used a GM made 6-speed auto (the 335i used a 6-speed auto from ZF).

I didn't know BMW used any of the GM six speeds. They used the old GM 5 speed auto that was also used in Cadillacs here for a while, but I thought (assumed) they switched from GM after that.
Anyway, that is an impressive number for the 320iT (as it should be called, no 2.8L under that hood).

The 335i is also pretty impressive with 23/33 and 300hp. That's a big bump over the 19/28 from last year. We'll have to see how the ATS does.
Oh, and...

The only thing I don't like is the price. Insideline tested a pretty much fully equipped 328i at $50,000. If you removed the premium package and cold weather package, you were down to $45,000... still kinda steep for an "entry level" BMW if you ask me... I would have expected this car to top out at $45k... A fully equipped 335 must run around $55,000?!

From the BMW website
2012 328i Sedan $34,900
2012 335i Sedan $42,400
BMW 328i Sedan - Model Overview - BMW North America
I think the Magazines go all out on the equipment. I remember Car & Drive did a comparison and optioned out a Z06 to nearly $100k.

Hmmm... I understand your logic, but after further investigating I got this.

I realize you have to "pay to play," but then again, this is probably why you'll never catch me new car shopping at the BMW dealer! My income is a bit out of their target demographic!

Re: 2012 BMW turbo 4cyl. 3 series rated 36mpg
BMW's option pricing is and always has been pretty steep IMO.
Their only real 'value' lies in two places: the purchase of a base model or near base model vehicle (such as a 34,900 328i), or their leases, which offer very high (unrealistically inflated) end of lease residual values, causing the monthly payments to be pretty reasonable on otherwise overpriced MSRPs.

Re: 2012 BMW turbo 4cyl. 3 series rated 36mpg
Looks like 36mpg was too good to be true, it is being re-rated at 33mpg = BMW forced to lower 2012 3 Series automatic fuel economy to 33 mpg

It's still class leading, even if it isn't as amazing.
I wonder how they really screwed this up. If we assume they didn't have any malicious intent, then they must not have followed the correct EPA test cycles.
