Check this out:

Not that GM would even consider it, but that's how the 5th gens should perform, or at least have that option

Yep, a sweet machine Jon Moss put together. Production car? I think they'd sooner let me build my own car at GM than build the ZL1.
BTW if you really want to see some ignorant, downright funny posts read the couple of threads on the car at the bottom of the page.

Best time: 14.658 @ 95.1
with SES light on and Driver off! (First and only time at track)
The F-body will NEVER die.

Hahahaha! Yeah, right.
I am not sure if I am at liberty to quote exact numbers, but that ZL1 is an R&D car and all in all over the years, it cost GM between $500,000 and $1,000,000.
Even if they built it at a respectable price, it would not sell well because it would be incrediubly impractical, I am sorry to say. "Too much" power is one thing that made the current f-body not sell well. Some people actually said "I don't need that much power" and headed over the Ford dealership. Sad but true.

Now, recall the 1st gen Camaros where you could order special hi-po engine set-ups through dealers like Yenko. The option wasn't widely publicised and well known to the average joe schmoe (like said moron described above). But those of us who wanted it and understood the implications (and therefore probably would be responsible enough to handle it) could have it.
I would like to see GM do this. Of course it will never happen in this day and age. After all it's not good business sense to spend money on something and then not advertise it.
Hey, in fact just like the f-body .
