Mid Ohio lap times

Just went from drag racing to road course, and I have to say...Holy Crap! This is where its at! Anyway, just out of curiosity, on my first day at a Porsche club event at MidOhio I was passing ZO6's and Carreras like they were standing still (all in the rookie class with me mind you...) but my instructor said I was doing amazingly well for a first timer. Can anyone comment on a lap time of 2:04 for Mid-Ohio, the instructor said it was a time usually achieved by more advanced drivers, is this true or is he telling every one this?
Thanks- Pat

2 more technical q to follow...

That isn't a bad time at all. I assume that the weather was good. In a bone stock LS1 Z28 in 2002, I was running 2:02's on street tires. In my AI-prepared LT1 Firebird two weeks ago, I was running 1:53's on Toyos. ...I was the slowest car in the field.

As a newbie, you can be pretty happy with that time.

Hey pat, did you notice what kind of max speed you could get in 4th with the 3.73's ? and at what RPM? I didn't how my car dropped off when I had to shift into 5th, wondering if the 3.73's would help, but don't want to make 4th too short.

Tim, I have calculated (and proven) what 3.73's do for speed on the stock 6-speeds. It is a table that has rpm range on the verical axis and transmission gear on the horizontal axis. The table is filled in with the speed at that rpm in that gear. The table is in increments of 250 rpms. It's in PDF format, but I can e-mail it to you (or anyone else) that may want it...

Just let me know where to e-mail it and it's yours.

I know the speed, I was hitting 115 easy on the backstretch. True this was my first time and I was backing off way early but there was plenty of RPM left. I guess you could check the chart above to find out for sure.
Pat
PS: I am thinking strongly about doing the ZO6 brake upgrade. Would you mind emailing me (here or privately) the parts list, where to get them, etc. I understand there is some kind of bracket you need? Also does it change your wheel offset?

SSTAT, you need the brackets from bob, check out this thread and see if you can get in on it..
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...39#post2040939

Besides the brackets the brake parts cost me $380 shipped from gm parts direct, minus pads and rotors.

The WORST thing about the LT1 on track are the brakes, I drove 1 event on the stock brakes and they SUCK. I couldn't believe how bad they were. Get these brackets if you can, they are the best bang for a buck you can get. If not I know LG makes some brackets too which are not as cheap.

as far as the 3.73's go thanks to keith for the spreadsheet, I have not analyzed the data yet completely. The reason I asked is that at roebling road I can hit about 143 on the straight in my z06 putting it on the redline 6500 in 4th. In the camaro I had to shift in the 120's and the car really fell down in 5th going from 1:1 ratio to 1:.75. I was wondering if it would be better to reduce the gearing in 5th with 3.73's and take the reduction in speed where you shift to 5th, or just to leave the 3.42's and increase my rev limit to 6500 since I now have a LT4 hotcam.

Hi, I'm glad you had fun at Mid Ohio. I watched you lapping ...good job ...I was in the green Camaro Z28 in group "B".
I would like to encourage everyone to attend Drivers Ed events, you will learn so much about yourself and your car.
I'm going back to either Mid Ohio or to Gingerman this weekend I hope I see some of you there.
This lapping thing is addictive is'nt it !!!!!

Hey! Great to hear from you! It was awesome being the only 3 F-bodies there, and awesome having an F-bod in the B group ( I saw you too, hard to miss). I love how you have no emblems on that thing, it it werent for the sound out of the pipes you's never know...

Also, It looks like Im way late to get in on "Bob's" brackets. I thought someone said LG motorsports was selling a version but I cant find them anywhere. Anyone know where else to get C5>Fbody brake adapter brackets?

Thanks-

This will be my third year going to Mid-Ohio for a hot laps event. Although they are not supposed to be timing at our event, my instructor did cut some times and I was right around the 2:02 - 2:05 range.

I am in the same boat as you....as I was hitting 115 a little over half way down the back straight. I was going to do a brake upgrade to the C5's, but went with stainless lines better rotors and Hawk HP+ pads in the front. That along with some good fluid made a huge difference.

I know one thing, my car loved the carousel turn.....Coming out of the turn I would just tromp the throttle and rotate baby....I was getting a huge jump onto the finish line straight.

My big disadvantage is the A4....but it does alright...just gotta watch when it shifts....and how much it unsettles the car.

Happy Hot Lapping,

Aaron
