PAC SWI Steering Wheel controls question

I have a 2001 Camaro with a Pioneer headunit. I had the PAC SWI module installed by a stereo shop. I am going to move the exact same equipment into an identical 2002 Camaro. Am I going to have to reprogram the PAC unit? Also, I am putting the stock headunit back into the old 2001. Will I be able to hook up the steering wheel controls to work again with the stock headunit easily? There is very little documentation available about how these steering wheel controls are wired.

Yes, you'll have to reprogram it. Yes, you can reattach them. I don't have the site, but there is one that explains every color wire and everything you will need to know. Hopefully someone will post it soon.

Are you certain I would have to reprogram it? That is not what I wanted to hear because I lost the remote. It's a pioneer DEH-P77DH. Am I out of luck?

Anytime you disconnect power to the PAC SWI unit, you'll have to reprogram it. Since you will have to disconnect power to it in order to move it from one car to another, you will have to reprogram it.

Luckily for you, all Pioneer head units use the same frequency for the remotes, so a remote that works for one unit should work with another. I'd run over to a Best Buy or somewhere that sells Pioneer radios and borrow a remote for a few minutes to reprogram the unit.

I believe the website with the instructions is: http://www.go2pac.com

I have disconnected the battery many times and it has retained its memory. What is the difference between disconnecting the battery and moving it to another vehicle of exact same configuration?

Every time I have disconnected my battery to work on the car, I have lost programming and been forced to reprogram the unit. If you haven't then you're lucky...

I have the manual and the only thing is states about the memory is that it's "non-volatile", which to me would mean it would remain programmed, regardless of power or not, until it was, say, manually reprogrammed again. I will give it a try though. Thanks.

If it does, go to BB and get the Universal Pioneer remote..I think its $29.99, then program it and return it. You have 30 days.
