When was the first camaro made?

Just out of curiousity guys i was wondering when the first Camaro was built, or what year they started mass producing them. I see the classic tech only goes to 67, so is that the first year the camaro was introduced???

If you want to get super technical, the Camaro never did exist before 1967 because the concept for a Camaro was actually called a "Chaparell" So the Camaro did start in 67

wasn't it called the panther originally. i once found an old mechanics illistrated from april 66 and there was an article about chevys new pony car called the panther . we all know that it was later to be renamed the camaro .

Yes it was originally called the Panther. I believe it was June of 66 just 3 months before it hit the showrooms when it was changed to Camaro.
