All HID/Hyperwhite experts in here please!! I have a few questions

the time has come for me to upgrade from the stock crappy lighting that comes with these cars. i want all of my lights to have a clear tint to them, much like the new mercedes do. I need to know what part numbers for bulbs, or if there is a kit for what i want to do, but i need help. I already have clear corners. what i want to do is have brighter lowbeams, corners, and fogs. i know that this may not be the most legal thing to do but oh well. i want bright corners like pu12n12g's and i want high and lowbeams to be brighter and whiter.

could someone please list either kits or part numbers for everything i will need? thanks guys

i don't mind paying for a quality piece but let's keep this reasonable ~400 would be excellent!

Headlight Option 1:

9005 or 9006 4800k - 6000k HID KIT on ebay $300
Don't go above 6000k if you want the mercedez look...
(Plug and play, only affects low beams)

Headlights Option 2:

- High Wattage Headlight Harness kit $30
- (4) 100w H7 bulbs $60
- (2) Hella FF75 kits $100

(Requires fabrication / modification of stock harnesses, replaces both high and low beams)

Option 3:
- Hella HS9 bulbs
- Hella 90mm housings

(I am unaware of any hyperwhite bulbs for this setup, but it is a great option for illumination)

(Requires fabrication / modification of stock harnesses, replaces both high and low beams)

Option 4:

- Hella 90mm housings
- (4) 100w H7 bulbs $60

(Requires fabrication / modification of stock harnesses, replaces both high and low beams)

What about fog lights?? can i get HID fog lights too???

i don't really want to fudge with modifying the factory harness and mounts. what kit would be the easiest to install?

also, i don't like the look of the hella's and piaa's where the bulbs are round. is there a set-up that will use lights the same shape as the factory housings?

The Hella FF75's are a close to stock shape...
here's (http://community.webshots.com/photo/62268907/62269841ACAhas) an old close up of mine. I have modified it some more since then.

That's about the best quality housing you can get for the price in that shape. This is also the easiest to install from what I have read about the 90mm projectors. And you don't have to mess with the factory harness...according to the Reference Data For Radio Engineers our stock harnesses will handle up to (2) 130w bulbs with a 30 amp relay. A relay is a necessity though (which comes with the Hella's).

You can get an H7 HID kit for those too though if you must have HID, that would be sweet. I wouldn't put and HID kit in the stock housings...isn't gonna give off as good of output as you could get.

I wouldn't waste the money on HID foglights...I would just get some hyperwhite ones...install guide in my sig.

The FF75's are crystal clear and shaped similar to stock (semi-rectangular). I currently have photos of that setup in my sig (page 1 and 2)

I was running 5000k FX 100w H7 bulbs in that setup.

The option 1 above would be easiest to install...

if i go with option 1, what could i use for high beams? also fog lights??

what about these?? could i use these in the stock low beam housings?? they are only 8.00?

As Bowtie pointed out, you won't get the best illumination with the stock housings (Option 1), but it would be plug and play, no fabrication required.

You could use Nokya, FX, or Showoff Krypton 100w 9005 in the high beams. Again, don't go higher than 6000k, or else you will get a purple hue (BMW style) rather than a pure whitish blue (Mercedez Style)

Bowtie has a good idea with the H7 hid kit too, although I am not sure that the cutoff of the FF75's is optimized for HID, and also that might go above $400.

As you can see it gets pretty complicated, because it depends on if you want

1) TRUE HID
2) TRUE HID WITH TRUE HID CUTOFF
3) HID Color Temp (HID LOOK)

For $8 those are a decent deal, but those are only 80w

You have to be careful on the internet. The Xenon bulbs (and ALOT of other manufacturers) list their Equivalent output..

80w = 100w (which it doesn't, but to them it does)

What you want is, you want the ACTUAL wattage on the back of the bulb itself to read 100w. These are true 100w bulbs.

Showoff, FX, and Nokya make true 100w bulbs. I am sure there are other kinds too, but you have to be careful.

The reason you want the highest wattage possible is because once you add ANY coloring to the bulb itself, you are actually FILTER OUT light. So to accomodate for that, you need a very high wattage, and preferably, a high wattage harness.

i can't find anything on ebay for the HID corners? i searched for the three brands that you mentioned but nothing for camaro's

what should i look at for high beams??

What exactly are you wanting? Are you wanting TRUE HID for lows, highs, and fogs - HID look for everything - or the best light output possible?

Here's a breakdown...
Stock Housings
The stock housings aren't good. You aren't gonna get an HID optimized beam pattern out of them, nor are you gonna get maximum efficiency out of a bulb from them. You can use a 9006 HID kit or aftermarket bulbs in the low beam housings, and a 9005 HID kit or aftermarket bulbs in the high beam housings. This would give you a completely new look as far as light output, and completely stock look as far as exterior appearance. This is the cheapest way to go HID, and the cheapest way to get an HID appearance. You aren't gonna get much better output from any bulb in the stock housing. The absolute best that I have seen is the Sylvania (or Osram if you can find them) Silverstars. They are just a 55w bulb that would run absolutely fine with the wiring like it is. This would give you better output, and a very nice white light. The higher wattage bulbs never impressed me at all in the stock housings. A set of Silverstars is +/- $90.

Hella FF75's
These are good housings. As Paul mentioned though, they aren't optimized for HID output. Only an HID housing is. You would get better output from these than the stock housings though. You can use your choice of H7 bulbs in these housings. The 55w bulbs that come in them are an improvement over stock, but you can do better. These will give you a better output with the higher wattage bulbs.

Bulbs
If you want true HID, then talk to Paul...he knows more than me on lights anyway, I am just trying to help.

Hyperwhite/HID "look" - The reputable brands in a high wattage will suffice. Don't get any knock off brands off of e-bay, regardless of what kind of gas they have and what color they are. They will blow in a week and will suck until they do.

Maximum Output - A clear bulb, as I am running. Luks 100w H7's. Perfectly clear bulbs meaning no light is filtered out. Any colored bulb is gonna filter out light, regardless of how good it is.

Fog Lights
Unless there has been a breaking discovery that I have missed, there is only one place to get hyperwhite bulbs for the fog lights that are true 885 bulbs, and that is here. (http://www.autooptiks.com/matrix.html) You aren't gonna find any higher wattage bulbs that will fit in the factory housings (I don't think, correct someone if I am wrong.) The factory fog light housings aren't good for much either. There is an install guide in my sig for a set of fog lights that are very bright, very white, and very inexpensive. If you want to be able to drive with fog lights, I'd look there first, because no matter what bulbs (most likely) you put in the factory housings, you aren't gonna get that bright, just color.

Now, what questions do you have? Answer yourself off of this, then we'lll go at it again...

i want the clear/white light look from the outside. i would also like to see some improvement in driving light, even if it isn't as bright as a true HID system. i don't mind spending 350-400 on everything (lights, housings, harnesses) for the highs lows and corners. i am just not sure what exactly it is that i need. is there a website where i could look at these kits? i just want to know exactly everything that i need to start looking for so i can begin to round up all of the parts that i will need. i appreciate both of your help a lot. thanks guys

There isn't just a "kit" with all of this in it.
But from what it sounds like, what you want is the Hella FF75 conversion with hyperwhite H7 bulbs.

The Hella FF75 kits are sold cheapest (to my knowledge) at Advance Auto Parts. They are either $59.98 a piece or $69.98 a piece. One kit has two lights in it, a wiring harness with a 30 amp relay, all mounting hardware, and 55w bulbs installed. Two of these kits would give you all that you needed for the highs and lows - less the bulbs.

You would need to get two sets of good brand 100w H7 bulbs (Hyperwhite of course). Check this thread (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73641) that has a link in the original posters signature for pics of 100w Cuzo hyperwhites in the FF75's. He also has an install guide on his site (unless he's changed it). That should fix you up for your high's and lows.

I did a Hella/Philips HID upgrade using stock glass sealed beam housings in my 97 Z28. In the picture are 6000K's. I sold those and actually have the same kit but in 7000K on order right now. I disagree with pu12eng on the color output. Atleast with the kit im buying (Hella 35watt Ballasts with Phillips D2S 7000K bulbs) look the most like stock BMW, Mercedes, etc etc HID lighting. Visit this website www.misterjung.com he has the highest quality HID upgrade kits I have found. DO NOT buy one of those cheapo kits you see on ebay. Even though I used the stock sealed beams the beam pattern is not bad at all. Infact it is not different than stock pattern just brighter. When I receive my new HID's I will try and take pictures of all the steps I did to properly secure them in the sealed beam housings. I never once got flashed by oncomming traffic, and I cant even count how many people double looked my car specially when the light first turn on. Looks awesome :-)
