Arrow Help I'm stumpped!!!

I just changed the opti in my car and got it running again. Changed the wire and plugs also. I also got a new coil. I got rid of my 2000 rpm stumble, but now my car won't start right. When I first go to turn it over, it sounds like the starter is going. Then on the second time trying to turn it over, it will start. I have no clue what is wrong. I had the starter off and checked that out, but everything there is fine. I have no clue, because it will do this everytime. What is wrong. I am lost here.
I mean it is everytime I start it. The first time it sounds almost like the start is going and then it starts up the second time. The car runs fine when it is running. Anyone have any ideas?

I don't understand what you mean by "starter is going".

Do you mean it just takes longer to start up, but cranks ok?

it sounds as if it is trying to start and the engine is turning, but it isn't starting. then I will stop and try to start it again, and it will start right up. It has been doing it for the past week. Does this help anymore?

Ok. So it cranks normally but just doesn't fire up. That sounds more like a possible fuel pressure issue. A test gauge to look at the fuel pressure would be helpful.

You could also try just turning the key to ON until the fuel pump primes and then back to OFF. Do this a couple of times and then try actually cranking it. That would also help to tell you if it was a fuel pressure issue. Maybe your pressure is bleeding off rapidly.

so you are saying like the first time i go to start it, it is actually dumping enough gas in so that it will start on the second try. Sounds like it makes sense. If I don't have the fuel pressure, where should I go from there?

Just a possibility. Another is a leaking injector that is causing a slightly flooded condition. Any extra black smoke at startup?

If the pressure is just low, the first thing to do is replace the fuel filter. Otherwise it could be the pump.

A leaky injector will cause that much of a problem?

It could cause puddling in the intake and make it hard to start because of an over rich condition.

I don't think my injectors are leaking, I think I am not getting enough gas. My car starts when I press on the gas and try to start it the second time. If I don't press the gas, then it won't start. I changed the fuel filter and it still does the same things. Would the fuel pump cause this. It runs fine when it is running, that is why I am not sure if what it could be. Any Help????

You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on it to see what is what. Just for something else to check that will cost you nothing, pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and check for fuel in the line or vapors. That would indicate the regulator diaphragm is leaking.

checked the fuel pressure and it held strong. Stayed at around 52lbs and held. I had another post, maybe the throttle postion sensor????? Car is running really good besides the start. Ran a 9.1 at the drags tonight
