60 foot times better stock then with $1400 worth of mods!

Car has ran a best of 1.76 60 foot times on all stock suspension with Nitto 555R's on the rear and my old 18" Chrome wheels up front. Most runs were around 1.81 though.

So I thought I would work on it and try to lower my 60 foot times to around 1.700.

Here is what I did and what happened:

Swapped my wheels for Weld Draglights with Skinnies on the front and E.T. Streets on the rear. Added a TransGo Kit, BMR Boxed SFC's, Tubular LCA's, Relocating Brackets, V6 Springs, and a Drive Shaft Loop for Saftey. I also have a drag air bag but it has not been installed yet. So Im thinking stock 1.76 best, that should be easy to beat.

WRONG! The car did have a best of 1.77 but mostly the times were around 1.81 again. Just like Stock! What happened? Had the E.T. Streets at 12 PSI and later took them down to 10 PSI with not much improvement. Heck I even lost 100 Pounds on the cars race weight and had gained 15 RWHP and 19 RWTQ on the dyno from an Exhaust changeover.

What went wrong?

You may have been hooking before and spinning now. How are your times and mph? Better or worse than before?

It didn't seem to me that you had a traction problem before, so mods to improve traction further probably weren't going to gain you much anyway. If anything, you're still doing good when you considered that you added weight to the car (DS loop, SFC, brackets) and are still going as fast.

I tend to agrre. All i used was home made LCA relocator brackets(in 99) and fixed my spinning problems.

If you were hooking before you are hooking now. looking at your times you are not going to 60ft any better till you add more power or remove more weight.

Good luck in your search!

This first one is a slip from Wednesday Night. It was around 50-60 out and clear skys.

Run #1

60 foot:- - - 1.7931
1/8 E.T. -- 8.3572
1/8 MPH -- 81.98
1/4 E.T. -- 13.137
1/4 MPH -- 103.37

This is from the last time I went to the track. It was around 40 and clear skys.

60 foot:-- 1.769
1/8 E.T. -- 8.2321
1/8 MPH-- 82.31
1/4 E.T. --- 12.989
1/4 MPH-- 103.98

Both time slips reresent basically all the runs from each night. Its pretty consistant.

Times are down .5 to 1 MPH but I am contributing that to the E.T. Streets. Seems as though I lost a touch in the 1/8 mile and a touch in the last 1/8 mile as well.

Probably will only be going to the track maybe 2 to 3 times more than Im going to have to do something to this. 12.94-13.13 is not a very respectable car even for bolt-ons. Time to get a cam I suppose.

12.9 is pretty respectible for a bolt-on LT1 car. I would love to hit 1.7 60' times. I think you'll see better ET's once you do more engine mods. A cam would be a good place to start.

Good luck,
JR

yeah maybe I was getting ahead of myslef thinking I could drop another .1 in my 60 foot time. I guess I was really looking forward to what I thought was going to be some 12.7xx runs. Well for now I will have to decide when my car can be down for a bit while a cam goes in. Trey Ive decided to go with your recommendations and go XE 224/230 on a 112LSA. Maybe with a cam in it I can get this baby to run some 12.6xx's!

Dude, I know exactly how you feel. My best 60' with a completely stock suspension on firestone firehawk ss20's was 1.76. I then added: Nitto DR's, eibach drag launch kit (4 drag springs, and an airbag), rear 3 way adjustable C.E shocks, skinnies up front, draglites all around, pulled the front swaybar, yada yada yada, probably more, you get the idea...basically quite a bit of suspension work. The best 60' I've gotten out of this setup is 1.81. I've tried different tire pressures, heating the **** outta the Nitto's, everything. I shouldn't have messed w/ it, lol
I got fed up with a bolt on car, now I've got a CC306 and I'm getting ready to get heads from Lloyd.....then i'll have some fun again....

From my experience, 60' is mainly based on power and traction.

I add power, my 60' goes down. First I went with a Vig 3200 converter, then I went from 2.73 to 3.73's, and I picked up almost nothing.

Just add more power, those ET Streets should hook up for you.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying about adding power to those E.T. Streets. That they should perform better with more power. I really didnt feel it slipping, and I even watched as my friend drove and it nearly lifted the front drivers side off the ground. I thought it felt pretty good launching. Maybe 1.77 is all I can get out of my bolt-on car for now.

have a friend watch for tire spin as you launch, and secondly what is your pinion angle at?

g'luck i am sure you can get it to work well.
