Prolly headers....gears will run you more than that unless you can do the install yourself.

actually, you can get gears for well under $200. and if you cant find a shop to install them for under 200 bucks, you're living in the wrong part of the world.
as for what you should do, it depends on what you want. if you want to go fast for cheap and are not planning on building your car up a whole lot, you could put together a nitrous kit with that money. if you ARE planning on building your car, and are not in any rush, i would say one of the following- gears, headers, cam, headwork. any one of those would offer a good increase in power/acceleration.

how much is headwork? getin ported polished/valve job etc....and how hard is it to take them off...? i dont wnat nos bc if i get nos im goin to have to get the window switches and all that safety stuff (93k miles) 6 speed, i do plan on building it a good bit, eventualy getting a supercharger, but dont have any $ right now (16...cant get a job)

every time you cut a corner with cars you end up doing it twice-
just remember that.
in the automotive world, its not a shortcut/cut corner
its HALF ASSED
i got an estimate from a local shop for a stage 3 port/polish job and a 3 angle valve job for 400 bucks even. the heads arent too bad to take off assuming you have some mechanical/auto. tinkering experience.
you can get a good CC cam for around $240. if you can do the heads you SHOULD be able to get the cam in.
as for the LT's, i dont know what these people are talking about, but they've got Hooker LT for '93-'97 LT1 in SUMMIT for $391.95.

jeezus! that's the problem with too many people around here. everythings got to be the best of the best, or it's "half-assed". thats BS. i myself have had regular old headers on several cars and know plenty of drag racers who run them.
I AGREE the coated are alittle better, BUT the kid is on a budget. when $$ is an issue, you dont get the BEST all of the time.
dont let anyone tell you the "uncoated" headers arent worth buying...

I can feel for the guy.. I was on a budget too. But if you are $150 short of doing it right, -you save up for a couple weeks until you have the $150.
Blow the cash you have for a cubic zirconia RIGHT NOW.. Or save and get a diamond next week.
Go cheap on floor mats. When you are doing "cornerstone" mods do it right the 1st time, or just don't do it.
