clutch work req'd Vancouver area

Depending on warranty issues, I’m debating whether or not to fix the clutch myself or have a shop do it.

Can anyone recommend a good transmission/driveline shop in lower mainland area? Prefer someone that is good with F-body’s and is familiar with SPEC clutches and performance mods. Thanks.

First, welcome to the board. How about some more details on your ride?

Second, I am sure some of us can help with your clutch. Several of us have done clutches on our own cars.... and a spec clutch should be easier to install then the Street Twin clutches some of us have had to put on....

He installed a Stage 3 Kevlar about a year ago. It just died on me last week. Started with inconsistent engagements, then some slipping, now it is toast. We are in discussion with SPEC about a solution. I would like to do the work myself, and would love a hand, but my garage and tools are in Victoria. And depending on what we get from SPEC, I may look into getting a professional to do the repairs. Plus I would like to talk with a mechanic, just to get some input.

I don't know him personally but he was a large presence on the board before leaving.

It might be tough finding a mechanic that really knows LT1s... you might be better off talking to someone like Mike (LT1Z28) who moderates this forum - he is probably one of the most knowledgeable LT1 guys here and he has done plenty of clutch work.

I personally don;t have any garage space to work on a car here in Vancouver but if you find someone/somewhere to do it I would help for sure. I'm no expert... we would need someone with more experience to lead the effort :)

Let's see if anyone else responds to this.

Howeve if Spec wants a pro to do the repairs... there may not be anything we can do unless you decide to give them the shaft and take things into your own hands.

I heard that Dave's car was having clutch problems and was located in the Lower Mainland. I thought it was too much of a coincidence that two 94's in the Lower Mainland were having problems with their Spec clutches. I totally forgot he leant you the car. :o

SPEC is going to replace the clutch plate. Gonna re-use the PP and what not. Any help would be appreciated as I don't really want to have to pay a shop a small fortune ;)

stock and original '72 LS5 454, 270hp/390tq, M21 4-speed, Targa Blue, 57k miles. bought it in '98 from a Chevy dealer in Parksville BC, had been stored in garage for 10 years. i've spent last few years rebuilding worn out components such as brakes, steering, carb, cyl heads, ignition and many others. it's a fun toy.:D

I'm actually not a real big fan of the non C5 model Vettes, but wow, that car is beautiful!!
