Hey guys just wondering if anyone has done this, and what they pros/cons would be? Thanks

I removed mine, it will clean up your engine bay and from what Matt told methe internal of your motor will burn cleaner...when we were doing my cam swap I noticed black crap in the ports...almost like carbon...anyway it was easy to clean off. You won't pass aircare without your EGR from what I heard...it's an emission thing. I bought some polished block off plates from a guy off the LS1.com board..30.00 for the kit..that includes the AIR tubes.

Cool Thanks :)

I have a low rpm stumble and I am sure it is the EGR causing it, so it must go and well it will help with my cleaning of the engine bay :D

I am not sure if the EGR would cause a low rpm stumble....

if you want you can use my spare vented opti and see if that cures your stumble before shelling out the money for a new one.

I assume you have already checked your plugs, coil, and wires for the stumble....

My 94 had a low rpm stumble that was caused by egr. It would stumble between 1300 to about 1700 rpm. I replaced the egr valve and it was fixed. Give it a try before your opti Johnny.

Yeah i am sure my Opti is still fine, only 23,000Km on the car. The stumble is in the low rpm range under 2,000RPM, and is only present at some times. I am thinking the EGR is sticking at some times. :) I hope it isn't the Opti :(

stumbling at or below 2k is a classic sign of a dying opti.... but it sure sounds young with only 28k on it. the thing is once the inside starts corroding its more a matter of age in years then it is mileage....

Low rpm stumble can be caused by a stuck open EGR.

Pinging at higher rpm can be caused by a stuck closed EGR since the ECM advances timing when it thinks that the EGR is cooling the combustion.

Make sure you tell the ECM that you don't have EGR anymore (ie set the enable temperature to 255), or you might get knock.

I just removed my EGR for the same reasons - my opti has 4000 klicks on it but is 3 yesr old - I know i need to drive more:)

low rpm hesitation can also be knock related - a bunch of timing gets pulled and you bog for a second or 2.

JD I also pulled my AC last month - looks like were thinking alike.

Took mine off and bought some block plates. Can't complain.

stuck open egr causes rough idle & stumble, also causes the blms to be lean, its a vacume leak period.

Just curious - wouldn't the EGR removal throw a code?

Ya, but I'm not concerned..we have the resources:D

When you remove it, take a look inside of it and see if it is carboned up. A lot of people clean their EGR's and put it back on if they have been sticking shut / open.

Let me know how it goes, because my 97 has 11,000 kms on it and I have the same stumble at low rpm's and it makes for a bit of a rough idle as well. I doubt it could be anything related to corrosion in the opti as previously mentioned, as my car has never seen a drop of water form rain or being washed.

I'm OBD1 ;) I will leave it to Payam or Matt to work on the tune :) Some people have done it and have had no codes. OBD2 would definately throw up an "SES"

I will be pulling it on satruday morning, I will let you know if it resolves the issues.
