Just hit a deer, whats the price difference between stock and ss hood
I just wrecked my car last night running into a deer, it did some pretty mean damage to my car. So now I want to get an SS hood for my car and hopefully the insurance and the auto body place will allow it. I was just wondering what the price difference is between a Stock hood for a 95' Z28, and an 93-97 SS hood would be.
I hit a deer with my real SS and damaged my factory SS hood. Hood was $1950 plus like $250 for shipping and that doesn't include the painting
I'll bow before you if they let you upgrade to an SS hood like that.
What they don't care about typically is if the stock hood is $400 and you want to replace it with an aftermarket hood that is $400. But, they'll probably laugh at you if you ask them to upgrade to a $2200 hood (factory).
My insurance company just gave me a check for the total amount so I could get whatever I wanted. I presume your insurance company will do the same. The check will be based on replacing the damaged parts (you may need to specify you'll settle for nothing less than real GM replacement parts or they'll sometimes try to get by with a lesser part).

Yeah, get that insurance check made out for only factory parts, then atleast go buy an aftermarket hood, used bumper, and lower front airdamn piece from wingswest or something, then get someone to install it..or you install it, then get it painted by someone.

Arbie, according to this thread, you might be able to do just what you want:

The only hold up would be if they're not available yet. I tried to look them up at Pace Parts and GM Parts Direct and neither of them had them yet. I looked up the part for the SS hood, but it's a bit confusing. They have one part number (10430312) for two separate SS Hood pacakages. One package has the hood, struts, airbox, and grille. The other does not have the airbox or filter, but is $200 less ($999 vs. $799). And yes, these are more expensive than the replicas out there, but these are the real things. That, the price above is MSRP, so you can probably get it for less than that from the right dealer (read: Dal).
Just thought that might be some useful info for you. If you do end up going this route, please let us know because I think everyone would be interested.
