catalytic convertor smells?

i had a wreck awhile back(only 16k miles on this 2002)

out of the exhaust im getting a nasty rotten egg smell (yes, it smells like a catalytic convertor i guess)

ive been running on 5 cylinders cause one of my Accel Extreme 9000 wires(8mm.) burned straight through. (AutoZone sells cheap $hit huh?)

i once thought that maybe i had a header leak, so i tried tightening the headers and i still get this smell(and semi-dark exhaust coming out of the exhaust pipes).

The rotten egg smell you're describing is your car running extremely rich. What other symptoms does your car have. Does it act like it has a loss of power on both bottom and top end? Does it hesitate, vibrate, shudder? Where are your RPM's at idle? More info is needed to help you here. If it's a clogged catalytic converter, chances are that when you burned a wire all that raw fuel was getting dumped in the cat, and that fuel eventually gets hot enough to ignite. Hense, burning out the honeycomb material inside the cat. If it's clogged it should rattle. One way to tell is to turn on every accessory including the A/C and try to hear a rattle under the car. Another way to tell is to bang on the cat with a hammer. Don't hit it with everything you have, just tap on it to see if you can dislodge the broken pieces. Sometimes the internals of the cat get lodged out of place, restricting exhaust flow. Give us some more info and hopefully we can help you more.
