When I bought my car, there was a loud clunking noise comming from behind the console whenever I would go over a bump. It also made this horrible clunking noise while going in reverse. So I took it back to the dealership and they told me it was the transmission mount. So they fixed it, and my warranty covered it. Well the exact same problem is back. It never really went away actually, because even after they fixed it, it would still clunk on some rough bumps. Now it clunks on almost all bumps and going in reverse scares me because the noise is so bad. So what do you guys think it could be? The transmission mount gone bad again, or something else? Also, is this mount going to keep screwing up every couple hundred miles? thanks for the help.

I wonder if the Cat to I-pipe connection slipped out a little. Mine did and ever since that first time, hitting bumps or under acceleration wheelhop it would clang against the body. I tried several times to loosen, band the pipes together, retighten. That only works for a week or two or when I start pushing hard. So I finally knocked it the way I wanted it, took it to an exhaust shop to put a tack weld on it. Hasn't clanged much since. You could double check all the bolts, or the bolt, for the tranny mount, it could have loosened up.

but what would explain the clunking sound while going in reverse?

I am in the same boat as you. I busted my tranny mount but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. But I too have a horrible clunking sound when I hit a decent sized bump. Sound like it is right under the console. Try replacing it again and see what happens.

Might not want to try and "live with it", the bouncing affects your driveshaft angle, and you could povault the car by throwin' the driveshaft.
...which is not good.
