No, there is no electronics which will make it do like that. It is all mechanical.

Clutch might be on its way out or maybe it just needs adjustment.

I've never driven a M5 Firebird, so I don't really know what is common for them, though.

From my experiance (I drive one) they engage late. To actually disengage the clutch I think I need only push in about two or three inches. That leaves me with another three inches to the firewall. But I normally put the pedal all the way to the floor anyway to ensure a proper shift.

You can tighten it up, but as long as its grabbing when released and doesn't drag, I'd just leave it alone and attempt to get used to it.

Reason being, having a little extra space behind the clutch pedal will let you know your clutch is fully disengaging. If it starts slipping at you're at the floor, you can't go any further.

I actually like it because when I'm racing, having a clutch that unlocks early makes my shifting all that much faster.

I just changed my clutch out yesterday and this is REALLY fresh in my head so here it goes. First of all, on the 98' and newer models, and probably the older ones for that matter, the clutch is self adjusting. There is no adjustment to make the pedal engage "sooner or later". It's all depending on how worn your throw-out bearing is. My clutch had some relatively similar characteristics that yours does. It would engage about 3-4" from the floor. Now that I've installed a new clutch, and throw-out bearing, my clutch engages like IMMEDIATELY. I need to learn how to drive my car all over again. There is no marginal room for error with this new clutch. It could possibly be the type of clutch I purchased. It's just a SPEC Star Stage II. Nothing special, but a little better than a stock one. The only difference is that the pressure plate was just a tad beefier than the stock one. Replacing that sucker...........let me tell ya, I don't want to do that everyday. The tranny removal was the hardest part. That sucker didn't want to come out and definately didn't want to go back in. After a complete six pack and about half a pack of cloves.....It finally went in with the help of my friend Eddie..(there ya go, I gave you credit :D . I hope you dont' catch pnemonia) It was pouring rain BTW.....
Anyway, if you have any questions about replacing your clutch don't hesitate to email me or PM me. I'll be more than happy to help you. Give you all the little tricks:cool:
