Can anyone go WOT in 1st gear? What tires do you have?

I have the worst tires in the world - Goodyear Eagle HPs (the non-Ultra). I can't even go 100% in second without losing traction.

Soon I will buy new tires I want to be able to roll into 100% throttle in first without breaking the tires loose. Is this possible with non-full slicks?

I have narrowed it down to 3 choices (16" rims) - G-force kdw, Nitto 555r, Firehawk sz50.

I am not sure about Nittos in the front, do they corner well? I want the tire to last at least 10,000 miles....

Does it really matter what I have up front?

Thanks!

I would get a pair of Nitto 555 up front and a pair or Nitto 555R's out back. The 555R should last about 10k-12k miles if you dont kill them all day everyday.

Hello. Are you serious, you have the same tires as me but you can go 100% in 1st? Man, there's no way I can even get close to that, not even on the best, freshly paved asphalt road or grooved cement street, even if I slowly feather the throttle... My tires are old, 4 years old with 35k miles on them, maybe that's why....

I'll look into the Nitto 555 tires, thanks.

I've got the KDW's and they have been good to me since i put them on. I had some toyos before this and they sucked the big one. The new BFGs are being nice to me, I will occasionally get a chirp out of them, but I can get into WOT on them nicely.

Yep so far I've put about 25000 miles on them...and I had just recently rotated them..which is bad but the tires still look brand new. crazy I think

I will throw something else in here. i just saw your mods and you are making some good power and even with drag radials you might not be able to lay into it fully in 1st. I say just get ya some M/T sportsmans and heat them up real good and you should be alright.

Just installed my 315/35ZR17 Kumho VictoRacer V700's, this is an impressive tire, I could never go WOT in 1st, but once these puppies get up to temp, it is like being loaded into a sling shot when you take off.....They are actually a AutoCross/Road Racing tire, so they are very very sticky (R Compound) I hope to have them last about 15-20K so we will see. From what I hear they are very decent on the drag strip also due to the stiffer sidewall design.....These puppies grip, grap and go...

If you are only expecting 10K out of them then i tell you to get DR's. If you want a decent tire that will last a lot longer i would tell you to get the same tires i have all the way around! Bridgestone Potenza RE730's. 275/40/ZR17's. They really do grip pretty good. I bought them in the first place because they won a bunch of handling test that more than one magizine did!!!! They actually hook better than my old Dulop SP 5000's did from a launch. Thats just what i have discerned from my experience. Just trying to help.

Granted it hasnt really been warm here latley, my stock WS6 with 120lbs of sand can break the new (less than 2k miles) Nitto 555 radials loose. Im kinda disappointed. Im hoping when it warms up, thell hook a little better...If not, theyre going out in favor of the 555 DR's. JMO..

I am sure they will hook a lot better if you do a burnout first. Some warmer weather will cerainly help too Dont loose all your hope in the tire yet!!!!! Let some good weather conditions sell you the tire first . Thats just my opinion, of course i could be wrong!!!!!

I have the Yokohama A032R tires on my car (275/40-17 front, 315/35-17 rear), which is another R compound RR/AX tire. They were great when all I had were bolt-ons, but now the 396 is done, they're not doing as well

Pros on running an R compound tire on the street -- insane cornering abilities, great traction, nice looking tread design.

Cons on running an R compund tire on the street -- just like the tire sticks to the pavement, rocks stick to the tires (and get slung everywhere). Sounds like a 4x4 truck going down the interstate because of the tread pattern (something that's unique to the A032Rs I believe). Faster than average tire wear. Forgetting your passenger is trying to hold onto a super-sized Super Gulp while you're demonstrating the insane cornering abilities.

Yes. ET Drags. Street tires are useless.

My ET streets don't hook me in 1st gear...when it hits boost....just worsens the problem. Some struts up front with a drag launch kit will fix the problem however....and the new Strange 12 bolt will have 3.73's instead of 4.10's. What gears you running?
