Mobil 1, 500 miles a year how often should I change it?

The 500 to 1,000 miles that are put on the car are between may and october, I may only drive 2 weeks total so it sits all winter i start it twice and thenit may sit the hole month of june and july. I was wondering if I should change it in may and then again in october? or just in may? thanks alot

Well since you don't drive it much the oil isn't going to break down and lose its detergents or additives but it will get condensation mixed in with it over time. I would change it twice a year just to be on the safe side. Heck you could even re-use the old oil in your lawnmower or something. Maybe put it in a oil can and use it for lube.

Thumbs up

You might want to trim up your sig to 5 lines...Mods will eventually will tell you the same. Pretty bad when the Sig is longer than the Message text j/k

I agree with 5.7 on this matter.......

That is correct. Mobil 1 and other full synthetics don't react to moisture and time like other "dino" oils. The Mobil 1 engineers developed their oil to last 25,000 miles with recommended manufacturer filter changes. They removed the 25,000 mile interval off the back label of thier product b/c of pressure from the car manufacturers...liability issues....

I would change it once a year if your running syn. oil, twice if regular oil. I have run MOBIL 1 for the last 10 years in my Camaro and changed it every 10,000-12,000 miles with the stock 305 engine, when I pulled the engine to install my ZZ430 EFI injected clone the 305 was still running fine after 150,000 miles and I pulled the heads just to have a look and could still see cross hatch marks in the cylinder bores!!!

even still i'd say twice a year just because of letting it sit........more so in cold conditions.

don't know how you can only drive a car 500 miles a year...i try to put that much on my car in a good summer week. the more the better.

My vote is once a year before the driving season.
