I'm looking for this transmission... its talked about on skulte:

http://www.skulte.com/T56.html

and theres a link from skulte's site to a chevy dealer in oregon where you can order it:

http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/BorgWarner/bwt56.html

This is out of the question though. Shipping would be 150, and I would have to have it delivered to a freight dock, because the place I'm having do the swap for me doesnt have a fork lift. No way I'm doing that!! I dont even know where a dock like that would be in St. Louis. I'm in St. Louis and I'm having a really hard time finding this transmission locally... apparently no dealerships carry this aftermarket transmission and I dont know where else to look. Any adivce?

I see post like this all the time and it really toast my rear!! ANY GM dealer can order this trans if they want to. There has to be at least one dealer in the St. Louis area that deals in high perfomance parts. Find them make friends, buy stuff---get a discount.

Hint; go to a small dealer with a friendly parts department, not aone of those mega-dealers.

Good Luck

what do you need a fork lift for... ? The transmission is light enough for two guys to lift.

I borrowed my buddies truck and we just lifted the tranny in and out of the box. It's really not that heavy.

Try the 4sale forum... there usually is a few for sale in there or even on ebay!

Yeah, skulte said that I could probably convince a local dealer to order the retrofit t56, but he said that likely I'd end up paying hundreds extra to get them to do it. I've read that this t56 weighs twice as much as the T5, which is the stock transmission with all manual 92 Camaros. The guy that I spoke with said that it would be delivered to a freight dock and then I could just come by with a truck or something and take it and go... I'm really not sure what to do...

I don't know why the dealer would be able to get this retro-fit T56. it's not an OEM part. It's an aftermarket Tremec transmission with a custom made bell-housing adapter and custom tail shaft.

I don't see why there would be a GM part number, nor how the GM dealer would have any special ability to get it beyond your own. If somebody knows something I don't, please enlighten me.

Steve Spohn also sells this transmission:

I just picked one up from liberty last week. Cost was $1974 shipped to my door via UPS.

Liberty what? Is that a mail order place, or some sort of place in your local area?

Yeah thats what I wanna know! I've never heard of liberty... but if they ship the retrofit t56 to your door, and that cheap, lemme know about it? I've found two places on the internet that you can order this t56 from, but neither will deliver to your door. Business address only.

It's a mail order place. I think this is the place all the other places get it from(they manufacture the adapter plate I think). Thats why it is so cheap. Great service and friendly people too. I had my tranny in less than a week.

Jim85IROC,

I've seen your post all over this board and you seem like a smart guy.
I don't know why the dealer would be able to get this retro-fit T56. it's not an OEM part
As an "Advanced Member" you should know that dealers are not restricted to selling only OEM parts. Many parts departments are run like independent businesses. Sallee, Scoggin-Dickey, and many other dealers sell after market parts. Some at substantial savings.

All the best,
