Hey guys, I know that its normal for our transmissions to clunk at low speeds(Note I have an A4). Well recently, (Gear is in OD) my transmission clunks when i am going at least 35 mph. At speeds above that I don't notice the clunking or hear it. Any ideas as why this is occuring? Thanks for the help.
I know the M6s clunk. I haven't heard much about A4s making much noise. But then again I don't know much about that type of tranny.
Any clunking when you get on it? If so, it may be your tranny mount.

Theres no clunking when its WOT. It's only if I apply around 10-40% throttle.
EDIT: When Im traveling at very low speeds, it will always clunk, and sometimes it makes a high-pitched clunk.

Well jack the car up and put it on Jack Stands or better yet put it on a Lift and check the Tranny Mount and then Check the Ujoints... and if there is nothing wrong with either then take the car to the dealer and have them check it... That reminds me I have to call local dealer and have them replace my rear transmission seal as well on my car...

how are you guys sure its not the trans mount....i thought it wasnt mine either because by looking at it it looked great but i decided to change it anyways and the problem was solved....mine must have been ripped the slightest bit 4 ever and one day it got a little worse but still not to the point that it would be visible

does the clunking noise happen at steady speeds, off idle accel., when shifting??? very likely a trans mount can do that although they tend to make plenty of noise at wot when bad also which sometimes can't be heard though due to engine noise/exhaust. quite often on the 4l60e you can hear the 3/4 clutch set apply when the shift to third happens which is for the most part normal.

even at wot the trans would have to make noise if the mount was open because u could gradualy get up to that speed and then id would be fine......
a poly trans mount can be bought for 25 bucks...why not just get it anyway
and i think my buddy will sell his black ploy mount for 15 if anyone is interested

i agree with you on replacing the trans mount, the stock one isn't that good anyway and will eventually break anyway. if it's not under warrenty still, i'd replace it anyway.

I'm hoping a tranny fluid change will solve my problem, this clunking sound is really annoying.
