Headlight probs??? ASAP please

My car has just developed the infamous "headlight grind". But there is a new problem that has came w it. When i put the headlight selectot to the parking light position, the headlights now pop-up but dont light up. They do light up when i put them to the headlight position though...... Is this problem asscioated w the headlight motor???

Thx

I have heard of bad gears causing weird problems like this, but I could never figure out why.

Here is what I think:
When the headlight closes, the control module uses the load on the motors (or back EMF) to senses when the headlight is fully closed. Because the gear is worn in your headlight, the module never senses the ‘back EMF’ and the motor keeps grinding until the module eventuality shuts it of by default. Because it had to shut the motors of be default, the logic in the module must be screwed up, or it goes into some kind of safe mode. I don’t know.

Anyway…I assume you have found this fix:
http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headl....htm#FreeGuide

Try that and see if the problems go away

It's the headlight that is doing the old infamous grinding that is causing all your problems. Replace the headlight motor and your problem will be solved. Mine did the same thing. You can save the cost of a new actuator by reversing the position of the gear because only one end goes bad (plastic rules). Someone out there may have a link to a site where the operation is explained. I had it and printed the instructions but as of right now can't locate it.

yeah, the stripped gear will cause that. I believe brent sells bronze replacements for not too much money.

the relay module that controls the light motors to go up and down is most likely the culprit. i had an issue in my 95 in which the passenger light would pop up on it's own and continue to turn until the motor would overheat. after putting in a new motor the same problem exsisted. i ended up replacing the relay module which is located on top of the "cold air GM intake" located just behind the driver side headlight on top of the air box that the air intake slides onto. it has 5 wires on the plug. 2 screws and a trip to the local junkyard should set you straight. hope this helps.

Yes, this is your problem. Go to Brent's page and order yourself a set of his replacement gears. The motor "stops" work on current sensing. If the gears are all messed up they will cause all sorts of weird problems.

BTW, if you have not already rotated the gears 180* you can do that to buy yourself some time. The directions can also be found on Brent's site.
