Some of you have been asking about winter projects. My buddy Jay would like to share some pics of his 94 Camaro 91mm Single Turbo SBC project. This is my first time posting picture links, so you will have to cut me some slack.

His current plans are for a SBC bowtie block, 91mm thumper, Power Glide and a 9 inch rear. It should displace somewhere around 387 cubic inches with 5.7" rods. Jay is shooting for roughly 1000 RWHP.

Jay's beefing up the cage this week.

After the cage is complete, he will probably start working the 9 inch installation.

Last I knew, Jay was going by "Bracket Boy" on this board. I think its looking good ! Let him know what you think.

Have a good one.

I thought my turbo system was tight.... That turbo is taking up tons of room in there. Chromoly or mild steel cage? Looks almost like mild.

Should be a wild ride

Lots of work yet to do, but the great comments help with motivation. Thanks!!:) As for the question about the tubing it is all 4130. With all of the rules changes that may be coming if SFI and NHRA ever get it together, the funny car cage, x braces, rocker bars and the dash bar will probably be mandatory for cars going quicker than 8.50. Right now cars with the factory floor don't need the dash bar, rocker bars or x braced doors and can run up to 7.50. I am building with advice from a guy who works at NHRA on "proposed rule changes"
No, the car will not be a "daily driver", but it will be street legal and will be capable of making jaunts as far as 8 gallons of gas will take it!! LOL I am keeping the power windows, locks, tilt wheel, stock door panels and carpet. I want it to look as stock as it can less the mods I am doing. If everything goes right, and I can read a tape measure, LOL the throttle body and induction should fit under the swell of an SS hood.
The boost question is relative to the engine size. It should have no problem with 30 psi on a 387" engine if you wanted that much. That could make a mess of an engine in a hurry if it's not right. There are people out there making 1600+HP with this turbo. There are much larger turbo's though as a friend of mine has a BBC with a 106mm that made 1984hp on Young's dyno.
Hope I didn't miss anyone's question, and if I did shoot me another!!
Jay :)

Garrett makes a 140mm inducer compressor wheel.....they said it's good for almost 3000hp by itself

btw...kick ass ride

Zurbo - Jay is east of Wichita and west of Augusta.

I'm a little down on top end power, if you guys have another dyno day I'd like to come out.

I'll see if I can post some more pics a little later on.

The turbo is not mounted as of yet.....the position in the pic is just to see if it would fit there. Believe me, I have been thinking about installing through the bumper cover. Once I finish the chassis I will think more about where it will be mounted. Thanks for all the kind words.
Take care.
